No Name - Just My Rig

Is it safe that way then? I can't see any other explanation...

How some of you guys get your cabling super neat...I will never know.

Should be no problem.
As for cabling

  • take the cable of the rear fan through the hole for cpu power and use a 3pin to molex adapter to power it
  • move the 24pin through the top grommet and tighten it up a bit, use zipties if you can
  • take the sata cables though the back and mid grommet
  • you can turn the psu upside down, cables will look a bit cleaner but just make sure you have a dust filter underneath so it won't take all the dust in
  • take the bottom fan connectors through the same hole as the front audio. Alternatively use something like this to connect all fans and hide it behind.

Route your cables around the back more.

Them sata cables are horrific. Put them through closest grommet, run them down the back of the drive cage into the SDD, they will be completely hidden. If they don't reach, move the drive up to a higher slot.

For fan cables you want to stick them around the back too, get a fan header to molex adapter and run them straight 12v, or if it's too loud get a reducer to run them at 7v.

Run the 24-pin tighter through the higher grommet.

For the bottom headers, cable tie them and put them through the hole above the PSU.

You just gotta play around.

EDIT: looks like Snortan beat me to it, although I prefer the PSU fan up.

Lol cheers lads, I was expecting some "Urgh thats horrible!" :)

I'll have a ply around, good idea with the rear fan, I hate wrapping the cable round the fan, I was going to sit the SSD's round the back but there isn't enough room. Cables are loose for SATA atm because I'm scared of how tight they fit. If I remove the cages, where could I store two SSD's? :\

Don't remove them, put them in the higher drive cage.

Got my Corsair Dominator Platinums delivered today, not seen them yet though since I'm at work. :(

May have a tidy up with the cables tonight and put the RAM in. Might also buy myself the H100i at weekend because I'm not looking forward to powering this up and the temps rocketing with the reference cooler and noise.

Just posted a new thread on the CPU connector since I'm not convinced its safe to do it how I have.

Here's some new pics with my new Dom Plats in. Cabling a bit better? The rear fan cable isn't long enough to route through any holes and come back through to be plugged in so I'm pretty much stuck.

Might get a H100i tomorrow though so that rear fan will need to come off anyway. Still not ideal with the SATA cables, I don't mind how they are now but the side panel won't close without a bit of a push. Also not happy with how bloody tight the power cables attach to the SATA drives, SATA connection feels like a flimsy idea to me.

I'd be interested to see what the Guv has to say about the rig, if you are about Tom, give us some feedback if you will on what you'd do with it. :)

You can do, but the cables were really tight round the back, so I thought I'd try it with them at the front plus it makes it easier for me to take them out if needed but I'm still not happy, side panel is tight to put on so hoping that its not pushing the cables down and damaging the connector on the SSD's. Wish there was somewhere else to put them, cables are tight both ways. It's the power cables that are tight.

Edit: I might buy a Molex to fan cable adapter that was posted here and hide them round the back, I'll wait until I place my next order though otherwise I'll be paying delivery just for £3.

Ok, turn those SSDs back around and put the second one a few slots lower so the cable doesn't bunch up.

Is there any sort of mod I could do to hide them completely?

I don't know if to add a Hard Drive for back-up. Not sure which RAID I want to use yet though.

Your case looks so busy yet its so empty

It looks like your getting somewhere, why not take the top drive cage out and turn your drives round so the cables are at the back?

A lot of power connectors can feel tight, everything you have done looks correct but I can get my original 4+4pin AX860 cable out and check if you haven't already solved it. SATA's are my least favourite power connector after Molex's

Is busy but empty a good thing?

Well really it only needs the graphics card in there now, but I may add a H100i and I may add a sound card although the sound card isn't a must right now.

I think your going to have clearance issues with the heatsink on your board if you fit a H100i. How far does the very top black part of the heatsink stick out from the PCB?

Idk from looking, its going to be epicly tight, I had to hold off getting a Maximus VI for that reason, they seem to have nudged the heatsinks up a little with Haswell boards.

JR

Thats a good point, I actually watched Linus onboxing of Zalmans new cooler last night and thought "I'll have to make sure if I get a H100i, check I have enough room!" but to be honest...I forgot. Like the guy above said to move your SSD down a slot and the cable won't bunch up, I've not thought of that. I'm just in a massive rush to finish my rig now, I need to chill out and take it easy. :\

I couldn't tell you how far it sticks out from the PCB but I could measure it tonight when I get home. Are their any epic air coolers for Haswell?

I suppose all those that were epic before are still just as epic for haswell. The Noctua NH-D14 always seems to be well spoken about but I don't follow air coolers having had a H100 and a H100i for ages now. I used to have a Corsair A70, that roared pretty good. Aesthetics and acoustics are most important to me now, if clearance proves to be a definite problem then I would go for a H80i and just run one fan on it, that would be pretty tidy and you could even leave your roof cover on and have it super quiet. If you know its probably going to fit then a H100i would work too but unless your trying to clock super high I can't see the point, Haswell doesn't fare too well past a certain point temps wise so just don't go crazy with the vcore and clocks. Unless you want to go crazy lol, but i'm guessing you wouldn't have bought a 550D if that was the case.

Definitely take it easy anyway!

JR

Oh forgot to mention in my argument for AIO's, if you get an epic air cooler then your going to get ram clearance problems! lol H80i is the best option that's actually gonna fit (without modding) I think.

You should definitely add a HDD to store docs, music etc on and then another for a backup (if you have no network storage).

RAID for what, your SSDs?

You could put them in RAID 0, not exactly worth it though.

RAID 1 would be pointless. Just back up your OS drive to a HDD every so often. (Just to be aware, I'm not saying that RAID 1 is a backup because it's not).

I'll have to make sure I check then how much the heatsink rises of the board, I was looking to overclock but I wasn't expecting Haswell to be so hot when it was released so I won't now, I'm not bothered though, I think my rig should be powerful enough to handle ArmA 3, BF4 etc. without needing to overclock.

Yeah I will probably get a HDD though, you can back your steam games up to a drive can't you, it's mainly just stuff like that, that take ages to download, plus any docs, pictures and music of iTunes.

So nothing has changed with the rig since the last post but I've finally got it finished, well will have this weekend.

I decided a 780 is to expensive, if it was a rig I'd always be using then it would be worth it, but this will only really be for BF4 at the moment and I bet I won't even play it much! So I just purchased an MSI Twin Frozr III 7970 and hoping that will do the trick! I think it was £230 from OCUK. The Asus card on there was similiar price and clocked a bit higher but it had red on it...my rig has no red! so I saw the MSI and thought it would look nice with it's simple silver finish.

Once it's finished, I'll try add in a couple of white LED fans and stuff to try make it look a little more tasty. :)

Installed my H100i last night, two SP120 Quiet Editions, to white LED AF120's and the Corsair pre-braided cables in white, I'll add pics later. Not gamed yet but idle temps are 30c.

Here are some pics. Cabling still needs tidying a bit and I'm going to mount the SSD's at the back. If they don't fit I'll stick them down at the front but need a flat cable.

Edit: The fan LED's are white.
