I had to rip my water cooling out last night :( so that iloveamd64 could pick it up today, and unfortunatly my replacment hs/fan has not come in time :(

I tried clocking my chip down to 1.1ghz with 1.0v to see if i could get good enough temps to run it with only an 80mm fan blowing on it - but boy was i wrong - after about 30 seconds the temperature was 80oc!!

So hopefully tonight i'll be able to pick up a make-do hs/fan so that i can actually use my rig, and maybe play a bit of css.

On a side note: I spilled water on my 6800GT :eek: :eek: :eek: But after extensive drying it seems to still work! PHEW!!

I love the way you put the last bit as a "side note" I would have cacked myself! :eek:

Well you're in the same boat as me with no PSU at the mo. I should be getting a replacement today and install it this arvo se we'll see how it goes!

Hope you get the cooler today!!

So when's the new A64 system coming then? hehe ;)

I did! But i used the good old hairdryer on it, and at the moment it works fine :D

New rig should hopefully be with me by end of week if the selling of my rig goes ok, and the guy doesnt pay me with a cheque!

I'm going with the following:

DFI LP UT NF4 SLI-D

San Diego 4000

6800 Ultra (undecided on brand)

And either an XP-120 with Delta or XP-90C with Tornado to get me by until i can get it under a prommy.

I'm also thinking of flogging my ram and getting something capable of DDR600+ with reasonable timings.

And then u guys have got to give me the lowdown on cranking the crap outta this baby, coz i have zero experience with a64's!!

Get a BFG mate...you know it makes sense! If not then XFX have the 1st pick of GPU's from nvidia apparently (sources tell me) and they're pretty reasonable prices.....

Get some OCZ Rev 2 Platinum mate....yeah! :)

Yeah i think i will go the BFG route....might actually see what kind of discount i can get in PC World as they stock em.

Hmmm....is that stuff TCCD?

It says low latencies of 3-4-4-10? eh? The rev 2 runs at 2-2-2-5! The Rev 2 platinum 3200 is only £200 at Kustom PC's (they'll special order it on for you).

Yeah I got mine at the component centre, but they don't seem to stock PCI-E versions :( Must do now! :)

If not then maybe a Gainward? That would be pretty good! :)

Not sure what chips it uses....and as for the latency that had me puzzled too....but i was kinda thinkign along the route that if this ram is rated at ddr625 then it should at least go down to much tighter timings with a little bit of extra voltage....

I think they do stock them now...and i should get probably £50+ off..

How about a Leadtek...it looks like they are OC'd a smidgen by default...

get mushkin redline. it doesn't quit when u pour on the voltage...... on one of my forums a guy got it to 290fsb @ 1.5 -2-2 i believe. only problem is that it took 4 volts! aka 80mm tornado on ram. i'm sure it you were to rig something you could get 270-280 at 1.5 or 2 cas latency

I wish I could help u with cranking the crap out of it... but... mine doesnt like to have the crap cranked out of it. Other than a new PSU I don't know what Im going to need to get this fucker to even post above 2.9ghz. I realllllllly wanna see that 3ghz.

How about a Lightspeed and a 600w PSU? What dya reckon? That would work.....go for it Jim! :)
 
hey xms man should the p4's throttling not knock ya down to like 200 MHz while keepin the temps @ ~50C ish???

hairdryer -- bad idea the air the pump out is apparently charged <static>
