NH-D14

Hi,

I was wondering how future proof the D14 is? I mean, if i buy it now will it fit on 2011 and beyond?

I will be using it on AM3 for now... and that brings me onto my second question - how will it sit on an AM3 board? Does anyone have a picture?

Finally... how future proof is this kit? http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/cus...aterCooling-Kit--RS-Series-Kit-pid-12137.html

Thanks

.

Edit, will that water cooling kit fit inside a Define R3?

The D14 is compatible with all sockets on the market now and also for the upcoming SB-E, socket 2011. Noctua has 2 versions of the D14 now: the original D14 that comes with all the socket mounts for Intel up to 1155 and all AMD, and the special edition comes with just the mounting kit for socket 2011.

The D14 has done very well for the SB CPUs and the AMDs. It should be fine with the SB-E CPUs that are coming out soon.

I believe the depth of the radiator is standard. You should be able to cool a SB-E well, but I don't think you'll be able to cool a video card. The built in pump and reservoir should be able to fit the full space of 2 optical bays. If you're looking to watercool both CPU and GPU, you may be looking at larger radiators with 6cm depth. Please correct me if I'm wrong guys.

Yup, you may be able to fit something close to a Corsair H100 using the 120mm holes at the top, but it may hit the motherboard or the heatsinks around the motherboard. I don't believe the R3 was designed for watercooling even though they have put 2 cutouts for tubes to pass through.

lol yup those are for external water cooling or to use for cable passthru if needed.

The new "special edition" NH-D14 (don't know if it is released yet) has more surface area and therefore will cool better

I think Noctua just released it as a standalone for socket 2011 boards. It comes in a newer looking box as well.

And has more surface area

ummm just went over the specs and its the exact same size as its predecessor the only change is it comes with the 2011 secufirm 2 mounting . I think because it says in the description more surface area one might assume its referring to it versus gen 1 D-14 as this was left out from the first one they just reworded the origional description for the new one.

6 heatpipe dual radiator design

Providing more surface area, better heat-distribution and superior airflow efficiency than conventional tower style heatsinks, the NH-D14’s six heatpipe dual radiator design was developed to provide ultimate quiet cooling performance in dual fan mode.

S_I_N do you remember the vid with that austrian guy from Noctua that was showing people the new prototypes? In that vid he mentioned the SE2011 NH-D14 had more surface area than the original one

From the photos released at Noctua's website, it doesn't look like the prototypes shown at Computex 2011. From their description and specs of the product, it should be exactly the same as the original D14. The prototype may be used in the future perhaps?
