do you get any kinds of beeps or flashing of hdd/power lights

Strip you rig down to the bare essentials:

CPU, 1 x RAM, HDD, 1 x DVD-RW and graphics cards.

Checking Asus Support forums may be a good idea as you may find some issues with you particular RAM and HDD's etc.

all the fans and stuff work, not sure about the hdd's,i cant hear em but they might be on coz everything else is.

i will try stripping it down to essentials soon.

cheers.

I just dealt with this on an old machine....turned out the Athlon CPU was toast.

I agree with the above, but strip it down further. Pull out the Harddrives and Optical drives, just leave the CPU(with heatsink), 1 Ram Module, and Video card on the Motherboard.....right now the objective is to just get something on the screen such as the BIOS.

Does anyone else have a PCI-E video card to swap into your machine just to see if that's the issue?

That or dig up an old PCI vid card if u don't have access to another PCI-E card. If you still don't get anything on the screen then I'd be taking a look at your processor and mobo.

At this stage I'm thinking its ur vid card or mobo. Almost all procs are pretty fuckin tough to kill unless ur pullin' a FragTek and runnin 1.7-1.8 vcore through it :D You didn't accidentally drop it or set it on the carpet did you? U could have shocked the mofo and killx0red it.

But all of this stuff is trivial until you strip down your system and start the troubleshooting process. Let us know what your findings are as soon as you have them and we can try and put our finger on exactly what the problem might be.

P.S. It could also be your PSU... I had a problem very similar to this with a build not to far back and it ended up being a shit psu (that was my Fortron Blue Storm). Replaced it with my OCZ and had a few problems with it as well but it at least got my rig up and running. Do you have a voltmeter mate, u may take a look at ur rails and make sure they are all outputting full strength (tough to tell with no load, but u can at least get an idea if it might be ur psu).

its cpu, 99% sure

I've had this before and I got it working in the end. With the 1st build of my venice rig. Stripping down to essentials got it working.

Also had it with a fooked XP Barton chip tho :(

well it turned out to be the ram,i didnt know about the dual channel so once i switched it around apropriately it worked :o

thanks for all your help tho ;) :)

Damn!! Just missed out, I was gonna say RAM first!!! I have an Asus mobo, and the dual channel is a pain in the arse, me and a mate have exactly the same rig except case and GPU, and his runs in Dual channel and mine doesn't....

I have an Asus A8V so it speaks to you if you've fucked up, providing that there are speakers plugged in ;) , or if there are any other system problems... mine won't boot with the memory in Dual channel, even after multiple BIOS updates :( and probably never will.

If you didn't get any screen and didn't have any speaker attached or powered on, this would account for no speaking BIOS (if your BIOS has vocal chords that is  ), common mistake believe it or not...

Im fairly new here, but have played with PC's for a few years now, and the guys here are great and really technical and top banana's the lot of them....

Good job that your RAM was badly positioned rather than a fucked 7800GT :D ;)

well now that is sorted i seem to have another couple problems

i dont get any sound from the pc at all,ive checked device manager etc and its all setup there and plugged in correctly and drivers are installed, even tried installing the drivers a 2nd time but no luck :(

Open up device manager, open the properties for your sound card, then go to the "resources" tab and make sure that there are no conflict. You can also go to the device manager and choose View>Resource By Type and then view all of the devices and what IRQ's they are assigned to.

Hope this helps mate. If all of the drivers are installed and everything looks good in device manager then ??? Sure you got ur speakers turned on? lol.
