Newbie Questions

Fittings are expensive, so is watercooling overall ;) ... Hard tubing or not?, counter question, have you watercooled before or is this your first time?... If first time, then I'd highly recommend soft tubing, as it's easier :)
 
Haha why yes. Yes I've noticed.. haha.

But I've never done any open loop water cooling before. As stated, I have a H110 currently, but that doesnt count does it.. hah. I DO like how hard lines look as you can get them perfectly horizontal or vertical without sagging though...

But he has 7 straight fittings, 4 unopened and 3 opened. Basically half off for all of them.
Now I'm wondering if I'll need some 90' ones as well. Maybe I should draw up a nice diagram first. But then again, I dont know if it'll be "efficient" or "optimal"...
Im trying to find some pictures online somewhere of other peoples builds and I cant find any. =(

Maybe I should just build this in my Phantom Full Tower and mod the side panel to be clear..... Suggestions? xD

Then I'd recommend soft tubing. Hard tubing looks nice and all, but can be quite hard to work with, especially if you've never done any custom watercooling loops before.

I'd say, draw up a diagram of how you want your loop to go... there's really no "real way" of how the loop should go. And it doesn't matter if its CPU to GPU to rad to rad. The order of the loop doesn't matter. Just try to make the tubes not cross each other so much for a much cleaner, aestethical view of it :)

As Chrazey said you would be better off going soft tubing seeing as its you 1st water cooling adventure I would personally try and build a diagram of how you want the loop to look.

Then you need to decide whether you want a pump/res combo or a bay res etc and which pump would you use? I personally have a laing D5 vario in my rig as my old xspc 750 wouldn't have had the headroom to accomodate the gpu as well as I want to put that under water in a very short time

Fittings are very expensive indeed, especially if you need a few angled rotary ones.

Soft vs hardline tubing: If you don't have a lot of experience I might advise you to go with soft tubing. On the other hand, my very first rig got a custom hard line loop so.. The more difficult route is also possible ^_^

You could draw a diagram and post it back here for further suggestions etc. The order of the loop doesn't matter at all, as long as the pump comes after the reservoir and gets gravity fed (mounted at a lower point in the case than the res). A pump res combo does this job already for you and takes up less space :)
 
Hey guys.
So I ended up buying the 290x with the Aquacomputer Kryographics full cover block and backplate pre-attached as well as his NexXxoS XT45 240mm. As well as his 7 compression fittings.
Yeah I think I'll go with flex tubing for now atleast. I already have these fittings so I might as well use them... haha.
Also, Ive heard many good things about the D5 vario, so I guess I'll go that route.


So far in my cart I have:
Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 360mm - White
Swiftech Apogee XL CPU Waterblock
D5 Vario Pump
EK-D5 X-RES 140 CSQ
Flex Tube 3/8" ID, 5/8" OD - White (Not sure how much I should grab? 10ft?)
3x Straight Compression Fittings (To put me at 10 total. (2 for rad 1, 2 for rad 2, 2 for pump, 2 for cpu, 2 for gpu))

Am I missing anything else? Or completely looking over something? If you guys see something great on Dazmode.com please suggest it as well!

Ahh okey don't forget what Asperatis said PT nuke is an anti algae agent personally I use a premixed coolant Mayhems X1 which comes with everything in it :)

No you don't. However, the kill coil will only have effect after.. One to two weeks I guess, as it takes time for the silver to react with the water and have enough effect to act as a biocide.

That's why I used both, a kill coil for the long term and a few drops of ptnuke for instant effect

Perfect sounds good.
I found some Mayhems Pastel stuff that I think I'll get as its White and I can get some clear tubing instead. I dont think I'll need the silver in this case!
Also, I'm waiting to hear back from a guy selling a ThermoChill PA120.3 (360mm) rad as well as another guy selling a Swiftech Apogee XT CPU Water Block.
BUT Dazmode is having a sale right now and they have a Phobya CPU-Cooler UC-2 LT block on sale as well... Hmm. Or I can get something like https://www.dazmode.com/store/product/dazmode_special_edition_cpu_block/ ? Instead of the Apogee XL I had before as everything will be copper this way!

Also, I think I really want to go with the hard tube route. But in that case, my compression fittings wont work will they?

And anyone have any suggestions for a pump / res combo? Preferably one from dazmode.com? Or should I stick with the D5 + the EK-D5 X-RES?

the Compression fittings you have are for flexible tubing only so if you wanted to go hard tubing you would have to buy the fittings Check if the Mayhems pastel is premixed as for your Pump/res combo you can get the for the D5 XSPC do them http://www.xs-pc.com/reservoirs/ but if you do buy an XSPC be very very careful you do not screw the LED holder in too tight as they are prone to leak

Your fittings won't work indeed. You'll need to get something like Primochill revolver compression fittings for hard line tubing. Bitspower has loads of fittings too, but beware of the crystal link ones, they have a 12mm od diameter so they only work with crystal link tubing ;)
