Newbie Questions

Hey guys.
I have very limited experience with liquid cooling (My only experience so far is a H110 on my CPU).
But I am thinking of pulling the plug on a R9 290x that has a Aquacomputer Kryographics full cover block and backplate pre-attached. (Unless you guys can steer me away from it? Its a great price... and a nice upgrade from my 7850...)
The only questions I have with this... Should I go all out and get a full custom loop and sell my H110 to a friend? Or should I make a small loop for just the GPU?
Or I could even get something like a Thermaltake water 2.0 performer RAD and Kraken g10 mounting bracket? And sell the Kyrographics block?
Thanks guys!

Specs on my current build.
Intel i5 2500k 4.3 24/7 clock (Might be interested in upgrading this)
Corsair H110
Asus P8Z68-V Pro / Gen 3 (Might be interested in upgrading this)
Asus HD7850 TOP V2
120 GB Corsair Force GT SSD
8GB HyperX Fury
Old Muskin 600w PSU
NZXT Phantom Full Case (Thinking of swapping out to a Corsair 760T)

I allways say, go full custom but dont buy any kit, buy individual parts and buy enough 90* fittings as they ALLWAYS comes in handy. Even some 20-30mm extensions is not bad to have at hand as well.

Thanks! I know that buying full custom is the better way to go. As you can get it perfect for your system instead of trying to get a kit to fit. My only question is. I have a H110 currently. Would it be worth it for a full custom loop (Cpu and GPU) if I Get this card?

I for one know that both JayzTwoCents and LinusTechTips, specially the latter, have done several and plenty of tutorials/build logs of custom waterloops. So that would be a good start! ;)

Thanks for the tips guys! I will definitely do more research before fully doing it. Haha. Still lots to learn.
Just curious. How does everyone know what size of rads to use and how much of everything they need? Im currently in a nzxt phantom full tower but will probably move to a corsair 760T for this build.
The guy that has the gpu that im going to buy also has a "thick 120mm rad and a medium 240mm rad. As well as bitspower compression fittings."
Should I pick up some of his extra stuff as well? Or plan out my build first?
Thanks again guys.

Well I'm not that into watercooling, but as far as my knowledge goes, a single 120 rad won't do much overall, so a bit pointless.

You'd be better off with dual 240's or if you can a single 240 and a single 360 rad. That is what I would have gone with anyway, if I'd watercool :) ... Specially since you're going with the 760T :)

Hope this helps! :)

I'd suggest to print a picture of a 760T and draw how you'd like to see your loop. Like that you can plan everything nicely and you'll know what to get.

A 760T can hold a 360rad in the top and a 240rad in the front (a 360 if you feel like modding). Personally I won't go with 120 rads. For the thickness, watch some youtube vids about the 760T and watercooling compatibility.

Exactly my thoughts :)... pull a 360 in the top and a 240 in the front, take around 30-60 mm thickness, is what I would see as reasonable. You can go crazy if you'd like too as well though, with a monster rad! :p

Depends on the monsta :p I guess in a 760T you can put a 60mm 360 in the top in push pull or a 80mm monsta 360 in push. In the front there is enough space but you have to get rid of the hdd cage. No big thing in a 760T though, as you have 4 ssd tray in it ^_^

Thanks again for the huge tips guys! I really appreciate it.
Do I really need BOTH a 360 rad on top and a 240 on the front for only my CPU + 1 GPU?
Isn't that kind of overkill? or is it fairly average?

Tbh 2 240mm rads will do but your CPU will need more cooling than the GPU as the GPU responds to liquid cooling better. Let us know if we can be of any more help to you :) as for buying those compression fittings make sure he tells you which size tubing they fit ;)

To be honest, you don't REALLY need it, but it's better cooling for your PC, plus it looks better in my opinion... so why not? :)

As far as tubing and fittins etc go, I'm all out of that area... so not much of help in that area I'm afraid.

The more rad space the better imo :D it allows for better heat dissipation and for your fans to spin slower, thus also generating less noise.

And we all love it when our beauties are quiet  :)

Indeed, I was surprised and very pleased with how little noise Nyssa actually makes, knowing she houses 15 fans! ^_^

For a 760T (which was my initial plan to build in), I'd recommend Alphacool 60mm 360 and 240 rads and run them in p/p :)
Oh and you should prolly get a pump&res combo due to 'limited' space in the 760T

All that you really NEED is a 360mm of rad space for a GPU and CPU. Anything else would be just headroom for slower fans. I had untill just now recently 360 (30cm) + 240 (64cm) + 120 (45cm) all for a 4670k & 780.

The 4670k Oc´d to 4.4 at 1.239v and 780 with 470mhz & 400mhz OC

Average of all cores: 52.75C
Ambient Temp: 25.2C
Delta Temp: 27.55C

All with the 6 euro XSPC fan. Its a great fan when under 1200 rpm.

NOW - I have only ONE 240 rad (pull only for astethics) for both the CPU & GPU - in game temps GPU 45c (with oc) & CPU at stock speed with prime 95 for 20 min - delta temp 36.2c

8.65c difference with one 240 rad. Ok, cpu was at stock speed only but its not too bad for a hot haswell.

Thanks guys. Love the help in this forum!
But hmm. So either 2x 240 or 1x 240 and 1x 360? Hmm. Maybe ill see where my budget stands because alphacool has a really nice white 360mm rad. ;)

The guy with the GPU also has a Alphacool Nexxxos XT45. So a 45mm 240mm rad. Never been used, comes in original packaging. And his fittings are all 3/8 ID, 5/8 OD.

Anyone have suggestions on this?

So other than rads, piping, fittings, coolant. Id still need a motor and a reservoir? I live in Canada so i would probably be ordering from dazmode btw. They have a few pump mounted res' there. Any suggestions or is it mainly what look im going for?
Thanks.

As I said regarding fittings etc... I'd take the guys 45mm 240 rad and that white 360, IF you can afford it.

@Chrazey,
No problem man! Thanks for your help!

One last question though... Hard tubing or not?
Also. I just looked up the cost of fittings.... Jesus they are expensive.. hah
