New ryzen running hot

Hey guys i just finished my ryzen rig and it is running hot.

With 10/20% load i am at 60c idk why this is happening i have an h110i on it. It is running at 28.3c could something be wrong with the proc?

The proc is the 1800x and mobo is the crosshair vi hero. I am running the beta bios from 3/1/17

I have changed thermal pasted on it and no change so i doubt its that. I have it running with a slight oc

As Tom would ask you what are your voltages at because if they are auto then you need to manually reduce them

Few things, what is the temp of your room, what temp is it on idle and what temp is it when you benchmark it. Also the temps on these seem off to me, so when its running put your hand over the rad and see if you can feel the heat being pushed out of it.

But these things can goto 80 safely so dont worry about 60.

Still, if it's your own rig etc, it does jizzle your jiggles a bit dude...

lol, well something i think people have to remember is that these are 8 core 16 thread chips, and if i remember right these shuffle work between cores and when it clocks one core it clocks all to shuffle that work.

And lets be honest, cpus get hot and its always dependant on delta plus amd gets temps in a wierd way, im hoping tom can dig more into it because he even noticed when his said 80 that the heat coming from the rad didnt represent that.

Hmm... Interesting.

I would try a non beta bios.
The newest one afaik is BIOS version 5074.

Hmm... Interesting.

Which might indicate that the IHS isn't as effective as expected in transferring the heat to the surface. Of course it could have been an isolated case with TTL's review sample, but I don't really know as I haven't watched any other reviews.

First, please let us know what your cooling situation is like.

Second, high temps for Ryzen are normal, with 50-60 degree idle temps being normal depending on your mobo and what volts it uses at stock.

When overclocked 80-85 degree temps are normal under load (like OCCT).

Ryzen works very differently than Intel CPUs, so please don't consider this bad because Intel measures lower temps.

Honestly, this sounds very normal to me... Ryzen is known to run hot, they can get a lot hotter than that. As Tim has said, even though it is saying its hot, you cannot feel the heat from the fans, while running just put your hand over the fan, I bet you do not feel any heat being exhausted.

It's TOM, TTL (TinyTomLogan), The Guvnor... Tom!

Yes Ryzen is a warm wonder but by god is it a performer, all above board and AMD are well on their way to putting their years of hardwork and development into firm action.

Plus the 1700 non-x runs quite a bit cooler from what I'm reading, and OCs well too. Looking forward to the TTL overclocking guide on the 1700!

From what I have read with the 1800X, when you OC, it turns off all the power savings stuff. That causes it to run warmer at idle.

Also, did you change your Windows power profile?

Maybe this can calm you a bit :D

Specifically, the AMD Ryzen™ 7 1700X and 1800X carry a +20°C offset between the tCTL° (reported) temperature and the actual Tj° temperature,” the post adds. “In the short term, users of the AMD Ryzen™ 1700X and 1800X can simply subtract 20°C to determine the true junction temperature of their processor. No arithmetic is required for the Ryzen 7 1700. Long term, we expect temperature monitoring software to better understand our tCTL offsets to report the junction temperature automatically.”

“The table below serves as an example of how the tCTL sensor can be interpreted in a hypothetical scenario where a Ryzen processor is operating at 38°C,” AMD explains.
