hi i'm new to doing this on forums but iv been out of the computer building scene for a wile and its changed since i last built one. i'm trying to get back into PC building again and iv come up with this and i want to know what you lot think about it. going to be getting new parts each month.

the list is

Intel i5 3570k

H100 cpu cooler

Gigabyte Z77N-WIFI Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard

Corsair Builder Series CX 500w

Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB

Samsung 256GB SSD 840 PRO

EVGA GeForce GTX 660TI 2048MB

and its all going in to an orange BitFenix Prodigy

let me know what you think about it.

thanks.

Get an H100i instead of the regular H100. They're the same price but the H100i is much better. Other than that, it all seems fine to me. Maybe a PSU from a somewhat higher end series from Corsair? :)

Ok thanks i will look in to it. It depends on money really as i'm still a student.

would u recommend i do a build log with it? it wont be anything fancy

welcome to the OC3D forums, mate.

you really got to be a kit builder to use a non-modular PSU. especially in a prodigy
build. that extra cabling has got to go somewhere. i'd look into the CX-M series to
eliminate some of the extra accessory power that won't be used. this can all be
built on a tight budget and in stages. stay on air-cooling and build the core, while
saving up cash for future purchases.

easy savings will be the cooler. opt for the CM 212+/EVO instead of H100/i. the
256gb SSD can be 128 or 120/240gb non-pro. and move some of the savings to
better PSU HX-series.

and yes, a build/project log is always encouraged.

Check out a 7850LE or a 7950 instead of the 660ti. They go for the same price but the 7870le/7950 are much better cards.

For the build you have planned, if you see that you are close to budget or over drop the h100i and get something like a NZXT Havik 140

Seems pretty sweet. But I'd switch that PSU and go with a Seasonic 620W or either a Corsair 600CXM (Which is Modular). And in reply to someone else, Corsair HX range PSU's are very very expensive so I wouldn't really advise going with one of those. Either of the above will be fine.

I'd also perhaps thinking about swapping for a 180GB Intel 330 Series SSD. Whilst the Intel 330 Series SSD's are still very good, there is considerable performance between the two with the 840 Pro obviously coming out far on top, and not to mention the extra 86GB's of storage, but there's also a £70 difference in price. So that may be something you'd want to think about.

Other than that, all good my man.

try getting a tahiti LE these days :( they have been discontinued, probably because they killed the 7950 sales.

Wont a 600W be to much for what i'm using it for?

i was looking at the H100 because it cools well and is quiet. i hate noise so i will look in to the other ones you lot have told me about

Thanks Guys :)

H100 is far from silent.. fans spinning at over 2500rpm is very loud. Could get a NH-D14 or a 212 Evo with silent fans on it.

I'd recommend changing the H100 to a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO. It's more than enough to overclock a 3570K to 4.5GHz (more or less, depending on voltages). I'd probably also change the SSD to a non-pro model of the 840, saving a bit more money there. And if the funds allow it, with those changes, I'd swap the PSU for a Silverstone Strider Plus 600W (fully modular, cheap and more than what you need) or a Corsair HX650V2. And lastly the GPU to a HD7950. Just my 2c.

Thanks guys. sorry for not replying sooner iv been snowed under with work. iv got some parts to get it going today but im going to save up for all good stuff. i should be starting to do the build log sometime today when the parts arrive.

thanks for the support.

The H100 can be silent, but you'll need different fans. And I'd get the H100i. It's the new version of the H100 :)
But indeed, I'd also look into the Hyper 212 Evo.
