New Ram (2400 MHz)

Hey guys,

I need to buy a new RAM for my PC. I am looking for 2400MHz - 16GB memory from preferably Corsair; Kingston or G.Skill as these brands I can get from my local store. I am willing to spend 300$ (max) (Yes that is a lot of money but I guess if you work hard you play..... with high FPS) on the RAM but obviously if I can get it for less I will be happy . I play a ton of BF4 and and saw a article showing that higher clocked RAM does actually benefit you for BF4 (http://www.corsair.c...gh-speed-memory).

There are many different variations of 2400MHz - 16GB memory from the brands above and I am not 100% clued up on what the differences between them are.

Please can you guys link me to the memory you recommend (Newegg preferably).

Thanks!

^When you're going for 16GB it's better, and usually cheaper, to get 2x8GB over 4x4.

Essentially, most RAM chips come from the same factories anyway, so it doesn't matter much which brand you go for. Just pick either the cheapest, or the kit of which you like the heatsink design (if it matches your colour scheme).

A lower Cas Latency is usually benificial but most 2400MHz kits will have a CL of 11. If you go for a 2133MHz kit, you might find some with CL10 and/or at 1.5v instead of the 1.65 that most 2400MHz kits will have. This doesn't matter too much though as all should work fine either way.

Long story short; it depends on price and personal preference for either a brand, or the looks of the heatspreaders.

^ Extremely true.. And my personal preference is Corsair as you can tell.. Other memory brands are available ;)

OP I don't know about BF4 but I use very fast memory (Cas 9 2400mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum) but for the games I have tested it on, the speed and timings make very little difference to the fps. I have tested it on its normal 2400mhz 9-11-11-25 1T 96 settings I use 24/7 and I have tested it all the way down to 1600mhz using the above timings which are very slack for the lower speeds.

What I normally find is whatever speed and timings I use, for gaming it makes absolutely no difference to the fps. If anything there is sometimes a tiny improvement running with 1600mhz and slack timings.

OP save your money and if you want a bigger improvement in fps get a better graphics card.

lol maybe you will gain 0.5 fps.

or lose fps

keep your money

Agreed tbh, for BF4, I run 16gb of 1600mhz ram, I get amazing performance running full ultra settings, I only have a 3570k i5 and a 660ti. I wouldn't be spending any more on RAM for the sake of it. Plus the game is buggy enough currently so spending money on RAM for it would just annoy me

If we look at it that way, 16GB is probably a bit overkill for just gaming and 8GB will be plenty. Can always add more later as well.

I also agree with these guys that 2400MHz is unnecessary for gaming and something like 1866 would suit you better but if you have any reason to want more and quicker RAM, I'm not going to stop you :)

Cool thanks guys!

I will look at 1600MHz memory instead. Seems like 2400 is overkill for no positive result!

Thanks!
