New Phone?

Not sure if this is the correct section. If not, can someone please point me in the right direction.

I've decided to upgrade my phone contract from an iPhone 4s to something newer.

I'm not too up to date with the phones and I'm finding it hard choosing a new phone.

I had the iPhone 5s in mind but it is rather expensive, the iPhone 5 was another choice as it's less expensive. I decided to check out the sony Xperia's and the Xperia M2 fairs well against the iPhone 5s and is way cheaper.

iPhone 5 - £28 a month
iPhone 5s - £43 a month
Xperia M2 - £18 a month
Xperia Z1 - £28 a month.

I was wondering if anyone can recommend one of these phones based on it's performance and it's price. The M2 seems appealing to me since it's the cheapest and the hardware seems pretty good. They all have different data plans but that's pretty irrelevant, I'm just going with the cheapest, non upfront cost method.

Please tell me why the (superior) iPhone 5 costs the same as the Xperia Z1 then? Even if you buy them without contract they cost the same as other top brands like the samsung galaxy series.

Because they can ask that price for it. Why would they charge any less if people buy it anyway.

To add to that though; Because Apple produces their own phones AND software, the software is completely tailored to the hardware of the phone while Android is build to work with almost /any/ hardware configuration

Yeah, I was then torn between the LG G2 or G3 vs the Xperia M2 but stuck with the M2 because it's £15 cheaper than the G2 and £20 cheaper than the G3 but the screen quality and all the other hardware in the G2 and G3 is amazing.

People bang on about the specifications but specifications don't mean much if the OS is designed to work with that hardware config. The 5s has alot more graphical grunt then most android phones anyway.

an iPhone is the only Apple product I'd ever buy new. Shame you can't build Hackentosh iPhones.

Yeah I really wanted the iPhone 5s, not a fan of apple but I do enjoy the iPhones. Usually buy them from people to get them cheaper. Just didn't want to pay like £38 a month for it.

TBH my 4s is still serving me well so I don't plan on getting rid of it soon.
