New Members: Post your introduction!

thanks

but to be fair its hardly an overclock just a fsb increase using OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Reaper HPC Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR10664GK) just cos you asked! :awhip: yeah stable but one slight concern must have been a glitch on everest showed my cpu to be at 124 degrees!!! thankfully false alarm :nono:

Hey Everyone, nice site and alot of insightful members.

Glad to have the privilege to be a member.

New to the scene and to overclocking. This is my 10th build and it was OC3D's review on the board I chose (in my sig) that drew me to this site. I am familiar with the 790i of which I have a build centered on the Asus Striker II NSE which is a sheer pleasure to work with after having the EVGA 790i. However I never owned an MSI and Webbo's review pitting my board against and Asus was an eye opener, wish I had read it beforehand, but a wish is a wish.

I am totally lost with this board and am not a cluttin for punishment type of guy and I trully believe I am in the right place to receive some quality help, so don't be to hard on me for asking what might be dumb questions.

:wavey: Hi yahyaue and welcome to OC3D :) Feel free to ask as many questions as you need, I'm sure that you'll find us all a friendly lot.

Just thought I would say a quick hello!

Been reading the site and forums for a while now so I thought I would join up. Been gaming/using a PC for 15 years or so now and built my first rig about 7 years ago. Done quite a few since then but just started getting into overclocking and now I'm about to purchase water cooling components and give that a bash.

hi all

hi 2 u all got myself a new build 2 oc and stoped by 4 advice and the such havent oc ed since my xp2400 was new so it all new with this new rig.lookin forward to this challeng get the case and psu tomorow il post some pics when i can

great site kudos 2 adim.:worship:

Afternoon everyone, just starting a new build and looks like this is the place to be! Hope you'll gimme some help when I need it, I pray that I have some useful information for other people too :D

to PV 5150 Hi, I am Cutter, a Yank in Florida. I did not get the chance to thank you for your offer of help when my new ASUS Rampage Extreme board arrives Friday. I enjoy this website. I operate a tower crane all day and cannot wait until I get home to go on this website. My experience with the British and Aussi's was l965 to l969, Viet Nam. There is so much I can learn from your website. I tell everyone about it, eventhough I am the oldest one there. Take care. Cutter

i always thought working in a tower crane would be brilliant, but i guess you're up there a long time. Does it get boring?

Hi Cutter and welcome to the forum.

I expect you get great views up there, but it must be quite frightening sometimes, especially when the wind gets up?

I can well understand your enjoyment using a pc on terra firma, much quieter and less frightening.:(

Hi all,

I came across this forum due to the watercoolinguk site, so far it seems pretty informative and friendly.

I have some experience in overclocking as I have been overclocking my personal components for several years, but I'm no expert and changing voltages tends to scare me ;p

I have my own little site at bullsworld.net it's mainly a blog but if you want to know more about me it's a good place to look.

I hope I can help out a bit, and also learn something here.

Hello PV5150: This is Cutter again. How is it down under? I just got my new ASUS Rampage Extreme board and It did not come with a water cooling block. I don't think I can water cool my Thermaltake Kandalf series full tower. I want to build a case and am thinking about how to go about it. I guess I cannot do any over clocking on air (Q9450) CPU. If you can help me get this up and running, I would appreciate it. I have an old Vista Home Premium 64 bit that I used on my Intel board that has been sent back. What do I have to do to use this HD with my new Rampage Mobo? Flash drive the BIOS? And where do I go to get the updated version of BIOS? Good luck and thank you. Cutter.

Hello

hello all I've been overclocking for a couple of years now, and I must admit I am an addict and have serious need to be on the bleeding edge of technoligy or at least know as much about it as possible. Thats why i came here today.

Hi Cutter. I have a Thermaltake Armor, which is basically the same case as your Kandalf and I have water cooling installed no problem?

There should be no reason why you cant overclock on air though, if you want to . The Q9450 is a 45nm chip so you dont need so much voltage. Get a decent aftermarket cooler, I have an Arctic freezer pro 7 on my Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8500, which used to be on my Q9450 in the other rig. There are better air coolers than that around now, but at least in a Kandalf you should have enough room for a bigger air cooler? I think the Kandalf , like the Armor has the option of the door with the big cooloing fan built in which should help as well.

Thank you

Sir, thank you for the information. I am getting ready to install my rampage extreme in my Kandalf case. I would like to go to water cooling, but the misses said No at this point in time. She's such a b........, but I love her. If you could give me more information on how you put the water cooler in your black Armor (same as my wife's), I would greatly appreciate it. This board has soooooo many things on it that it will probably be a while before I overclock. I guarantee you, I will try. Again, thank you very much. I hope this helps cutter?

Where to start.

I have 2 radiators, 1 at the front bottom of the case with a 120cm fan on it facing inwards. The second is mounted at the back mid case, where the normal extractor fan goes, also with a 120 cm fan on it blowing out.

I have an Eheim 600 12volt submerged pump mounted bottom front, behind the front radiator at the cage frame, which just fits nicely below the back end of the BFG 8800 GTX graphics card, which is mounted on a Gigabyte P35 -DQ6 mb. The cpu is cooled by an EK supreme plexi water block.

I also have 4 gig (2x2gig) of OCZ Flex II memory which is also water cooled in the same loop. Fluid goes from the pump to a Y splitter which feeds the inlets on the memory and the cpu block. The returns from both come out to another Y splitter and into the rear radiator. The outlet from this radiator goes to an outside reservoir to hold extra coolant and provide second stage cooling. The return from the outside reservoir comes back in and along the bottom of the case to the front raditator, whose outlet is the return to the pump. This gives me in effect four stage cooling as the pump is a submerged type which is the main reservoir.

The Q450 is overclocked at 3.52 gig and runs at about 24c idle and tops at 30-32c under high load. The memory is not overclocked, mainly due to my lack of experience and succes at doing it.

The whole is very stable, even when under load for hours on end when gaming.

I hope this is helpful to you as a similar setup must work in a Kandalf case? The size and positions internally are the same I think, if anything the Kandalf may be slightly bigger giving a bit more room to work? Oh it is the full tower Armor, just in case you were thinking of the smaller junior case?

This may now be posted in the wrong place as it's a reply to a question, but if a mod thinks it needs to be moved to the correct place please do so. Thanks.

cooling project from Cutter

To Diablo 13: and all members of OC3D. I can't wait to try water cooling. Thank you Diablo 13 for the information. I will try to look up the Eheim 600 12V submerged pump. I like the fact that you have double coolers and that you can take Q9450 3.5Ghz. Any members who would like to give me anymore info on liquid cooling products, I would appreciate it. I have a Rampage Extreme Mobo 8GB Patriot Viper 1333Mhz, 1.7V. Right now my temperatures (CPU temp idel 9.5C/49F; MB temp 27C/80.5F; NB temp 40C/104F; SB 38C/100F and GTX 289 runs 37-42C at 70% fan speed). With my case 3 ft from the air conditioner, set at 66 degrees....this Mobo comes with a fusion block for liquid cooling. The NB and SB. I guess these temperatures of 104F and 100F are high. I am hoping the liquid cooling with members help of products will allow me to reach 3.4-3.5 Ghz. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for allowing me to be part of OC3D net. Cutter
