New Keyboard

I just got the key tester, JR I do like the v60 shame pexon doesn't have anymore otherwise I'd get him to send me one out to play with

What's it like when it comes to gaming? Do you feel the size if that makes sense?

Yep got the last one :) you feel the size all of the time, I don't think greens lend them selves to gaming in the same effortless way reds do. They are nice for totally smashing out text at epic pace. It's useless info because you can't buy one but the 'Fn' key works really well giving just about every key a secondary/tertiary function. If you were constrained to having a really small board then it's a nice option to have but I prefer a full board because I often use arrows to navigate around windows. On the plus side of that your mouse is always close to your right hand. I'm not sure I would buy a big board with greens for general purpose, going in the middle with blues or browns is the way forwards I think.

Would you say a mini with Browns could be a good starting point and to keep the k70 as backup?

Browns are totally disappointing switches. Reds are commonly recommended for gaming, great, no tactility, some may like them, so. I have used, extensively, every switch (including MX Grey) available and blues/ greens are by far my favourite. Blues are great switches, perfect for typing, great feedback however, they are quite audible.

60% is the future, if you can live without the numpad and arrow keys, (of course, these can be remapped under a Fn layer). I cannot use a fullsize board now, they take up way to much desk real estate, even my Filco TKL boards take up too much space since I've acclimatized to the dinky 60% footprint. If you don't believe me, I have a HHKB Pro 2, V60 and Poker 2 that regularly get switched around my desk.

Your only real options for a half decent MX board under 100 are the CM series and lower end Ducky boards IMHO. There are the Corsair boards, with the RGB switches, however I have not used these so I can't comment.

Personally, if you can afford it, I would recommend a Filco board, they are great boards (especially in the TKL form, I have 2) if you want to try out a board without a numpad to see how you get on. They come in ISO and ANSI standard layouts (proper sized bottom row cap sizing), excellent built quality and easy to mod. They run around 130 new however, but can often be found second hand under 100.

Just my 2 cents, I don't like keyboards (lies).

EDIT:- MX Brown uses the same springs are red switches, browns have a 'meh' bump half way down and are semi audible

What about this, the Razer blackwidow ultimate elite, you can even buy it now with RGB colors. And it has razer green keys ( 2014 model ) and before blue keys witch are about the same. I use them for all my machines and I love it :)

Well, the Poker 3 has recently been announced and they look exciting. I've not had word from Vortex about availability, but I should have a sample board after Christmas.

V60s are cool, but we won't be getting anymore in I don't think. It all depends on how quickly you want a board in to be honest.

I forgot about these, I have a TKL Razer with Kailh brown switches and I much prefer them to MX browns (seem to me at least they have a beefier tactile bump). If you can forgo the aesthetics, they are solid boards.

I'd like one this side of Christmas if I'm honest

What about the poker 2?

I doubt you'd be able to get one before Christmas if I'm honest dude. Poker 2 are cool, however most places are out of stock/ buying from China = a lot of hassle

+1 Pexon, there aren't a lot of boards out there in the UK to buy, especially not before Christmas, I did have a good look around before getting the V60. Maybe wait for a Poker 3 and get blues if your feeling like going down the 60% route? Also black Alu case might be handy to have on the shelf ;)

No worries H. You know where I am if you need me bud. Poker 3 looks like it will be a seriously swaggy board

Massdrop regularly sells 60% keyboards. Tried using one for a week and it was the worst typing experience of my life. Be aware that they are very subjective and I wouldn't recommend getting one until your third board where you have some options. I exclusively use TKL but 60% is just too small.

Massdrop is a PITA though. 2 of my friends ordered Ergo Dox kits and it took over 1 year for them to come. One got an email saying it had been dispatched, but it took them 3 months to send them the tracking details. Ordering from the US also incurs import duties, clearance fees through customs etc. You can easily add another 30 quid on top of any keyboard purchase, even if it is a Poker or one of those Infinity kits (but that is a proper DIY kit).

When I bought my Happy Hacker Pro 2, the only other boards I had were Filcos and a Steel Series 6G V2, I jumped right in the deep end, with a completely non standard layout, tiny form factor and I've not looked back since. Coming from a Corsair K70 it will be a big jump, I agree, but if you don't find yourself using the far right hand side of the keyboard, 60% is great for you. Its all horses for courses, but as I said, personally, 60% suits me down to the ground, its fun, quirky and different. #hipster

Fair enough I've not personally bought anything from massdrop.
I really wanted to like the HHKB but it just slowed my typing right down and it felt so awkward. They are definitely a marmite thing but I'd say they are for enthusiasts.

Thats the reason why I wont buy anything from them.

Did you try the proper HHKB (pro 2) of the lite version, they are two completely different beasts. They are mega popular on Geekhack and Desktority and rightly so.

Pro 2 borrowed it from a work colleague. I really liked the capacitive switches so he lent me his realforce for a bit too. Unfortunately I don't want to pay for one myself so I settled for the Novatouch which I think is pretty decent for the price.
