New job pc build

Ok so i started my new job this week and what better way to start it with putting your own hand picked pc together at the first day eh? :lol:

Specs:

CASE: CM Storm Scout 2 advanced, gunmetal grey
CASEFANS: 2x Corsair AF120 quiet
MOBO: Asrock x79 extreme 4 socket 2011
CPU: I7 3820 @ 3,6Ghz
COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
SSD: Corsair Force GS 128Gb
PSU: Corsair CX430M
GPU: Asus GTX 560 Ti 1024Mb
RAM: Kingston Hyper X 2x4Gb
Mouse: CM Storm Xornet
Monitors: 2x Samsung 24 inch widescreen LED
And a shitty cheap temporary microsoft keyboard i want to replace with a membrane one.

Only got a few pics since nobody at the office knows what else is in a pc besides a powerbutton to turn it on lol.
They wouldent understand the point of a build log so i had to be sneaky about it.

The colors don't match tho, since the guy who HAD to order the final list for me swapped around some parts for ones that ware in stock :/

Besides the out of place green on the PSU it does look nice i think.
Not bad for 4 hours work on day two of a new job. ^_^

nice work mate, simple clean build. Any plans to try and braid the cables? Specifically the ones at the bottom of the boards like the USB wires, front HD audio etc

Nah this is how it will stay im afraid since the pc will have to go under the desk in those metal bracket things.
So because of that there is no point in making it look nice with braided cables imo.
I tried to convince my new boss with the nice looks of the case butche said "i want that thing under the table" lol
At least i got to work with this cm scout case in person now hehe.
One thing i will do is drill out the rivets from the front section of the drivecage to free the front air intake.

There's just no respect for pc's. Even after living in a world of technology, computers are just those "things under the desk". You should have stuck a bunch of bright lighting in there. :lol: JK, he would not be happy about that.

Funny you say that since i actually took out the red LED fans that ware in the front by default lol.
I did that for many reasons like i figured they would be to flashy for the boss to agree with, poor performance of the stock fans (turned out to be not that bad), The Corsair AF120's are better and more silent.

But yeah again, i got to work with a nice case for free and will be using it personally even while i won't be seeing it.
Ah well lol.

Oh one funny thing i have to mention.
Last friday the cleaning lady came in to clean the floor and she was all like "building a new pc eh?".
Turns out she manually picks parts and builds pc's herself as well lol.
I'm sure she would understand hiding the case under the table is a bad idea lol. :lol:

It's awesome you got to build a PC at work, but unfortunately there's always going to be people who think that a computer is just a box, or that the computer is the monitor (like my mum thinks), so they don't appreciate them.

And then the shit hit the fan sadly.
So i installed win 7 on it at the office and it ran fine.
Took it home to show my g/f the inside of the case while it was running and it ran fine.
Then i started it up and booted to win 7 desktop where i got a message " blablabla need a restart for these settings to take effect".
So automaticly i hit restart on the message box and the pc shut down, only to not reboot anstay off untill this very moment.
Pressing the powerbutton does nothing either, unless i unplug the 8pin from the mobo, then the GPU and front and CPU fan spin up half a seccond and then stop.
Then they spin up 2 secconds later again and stop, this goes on till eternity.
Allready did the paperclip green / black wire trick and the PSU fan stays on spinning, but thats under 0 load.

Just so frustrating all works fine and then a windows message reboot seems to turn it into a dead corpse :/

Any ideas people?

Try making sure all the cables that came with the power supply are used.. don't use any from a different psu. You might think its a stupid idea but this happened to me with 3 powersupplies... changed it to the correct ones and bam worked.

I did use the cables that came with the PSU only.
Also i just connected 24 pin and 8 pin from the rig im typing on now to the work pc and same thing.
Only now i hear a "click" in the cooler master m2 silent pro 1000watts when i push the power button on the work pc.
Keep in mind the m2 silent pro is from my gaming rig i type this on as we speak, so thats fine.

So "something" is making the work rig short out and PSU safety kicks in or something
I don't know what it could be tho since i only have the 8 pin and 24 pin connected since the rest is modular and unplugged.
Wierd stuff, and i dun like it lol :mellow:

Hmm i see i didnt tell the full story so here goes the attemped short version of what happened so far:

- got the parts, build the pc, plugged the power cord into the new work rig PSU and heard some zapping and whisling when i flipped the switch on the back of the new work rig.

- unplugged the powercord stuck it in my old shit pc i had with me and the same happened, including smoke coming off the plug that goes into the PSU and a bad chemo smell.

- took my own power cord and that worked fine in both pc's

- installed win 7 on the new work rig and worked fine including reboots during the installation.

- come home, turn the new work rig on and off a few times and boots fine into windows, gives a "need to reboot" message and let it reboot.

- only, it doesnt reboot and never turns on anymore when i push the power button.

- i take the 1000 watt PSU from my gaming righ and hook it up to the work pc, as soon as i press the powerbutton on the work pc the 1000 watt PSU clicks and nothing happens.
This is with only the 24 and 8 pin cables connected to the mobo, so that shouldent make the 1000 watt PSU safety protection shut off kick in.

Ill take the mobo out the case 2morrow and test it like that since i spent the last 3 hours on it allready lol

Right, i don't know why but i decided to pull out all the front panel plugs but the power button switch one.
And like magic it allmost looked like it was going to work since all the fans spin but the dr. debug display says "00" and stays at that forever.
Really starting to think something got fired in the mobo somehow :/

It will be used for autocad 2007 mostly with 2 monitors.

I got a small bit of progress on the not booting problem tho.
I unplugged all the front pannel plugs but the power switch.
Pushed it and all the fans span up but the dr. debug display says "00" and stays on that forever.
Appearantly thats a code for a CPU problem and people only fixed it by just getting a new mobo.
I tried all the obvious now so im off to bed since i don't feel like there is more i can do

In your boss' point of view: This guy built me a pc and it was fine. He then took it home and it broke. He must have sabotaged it.

Well for starters the pc is for myself, so why would i sabotage my own pc?

Nope its for me to use at the office.
Ill try the cpu in my rig in a bit since i got the same and if it wont boot then the cpu got fried.

I tested the CPU in my own gaming rig and the same happened: "00" code showed up on the Dr. Debug and all the fans spin and it hangs there like that.
Took the faulty CPU out, put my own back in, boots fine with all the test codes flashing by on the Dr. debug.

So yeah we got ourselves a dead CPU on the work rig but it seems the mobo is actually fine since it does the same thing as mine.
I'm sure the PSU event had something to do with it tho :/
