New graphics card

A mate of mine is thinking of upgrading his XFX HD5770 to something a bit beefier. What would be the best card for him for around £150? (Can only be a single card as his MB only has one PCI-E slot.)

I think the 5850 is his best bet, i got mine for £140 Here

This is none reference (reference cards cost more anyway) But the cooler is amazing, Not reached over 60c yet even on crysis max settings.

i really think there should be a "new gpu" sticky thread, with a best card for money list

maybe i'll do that once my exams are done

GTX 460, by far, or get a new mobo and another 5770.

What are the rest of his specs? That would help the decision much more, because he may just need to do some CPU overclocking to get some beefy performance gains. If I can live with an 8800 GT at 1920x1200, I'm pretty sure there are other places to look for performance.

I'd say get a GTX460, and don't forget to fold the s**t out of it!

Cheers guys. The rest of his spec is as follows:

CPU: i5 750

Cooler: Corsair H50

Motherboard: Asus P7P55-M (I think)

Memory: 4GB DDR3 (don't know what make)

HDD: 1TB 7200rpm

PSU: Some generic 500W (not good, I know)

If he wanted to crossfire anything the power supply would need an upgrade. It might be a good idea to with a 5850 too. Hope that will help.

I wouldn't go with a cheap generic PSU.

If it goes then there is a chance of your entire system going with it.

Dont cheap out on that part of the build.

The RAM should be Mushkin, im betting everyone will probably say the same

Two things people love on these forums, Mushkin RAM and Noctua NH-D14s.

Thats the specs of his pc at the moment. I would never build a computer with a generic PSU or non-named memory except if I had a budget of £200!

Well said, I wouldn't be using that pc, if I had one, for anything tough. Only word processing and internet browsing.
