New GPU - random screen flicker?

Okay this is a weird one to explain.

I recently upgraded my 6870 to an R9 270x, at everything is working perfectly except for one really irritating issue.

Every now and again, I get this weird screen flicker on both my monitors. It's like they get nudged up or down for a split second, it's so fast that you could miss it by blinking. It happens sporadically, sometimes 2-5 minutes, sometimes 30, but it's noticeable and I'd just like to get rid of it/make sure it's not going to worsen. I don't think it happens after I "provoke" it but I'll monitor what I'm doing when it next occurs to see if there is a pattern.

Nothing else, programs, colours, anything is affected, it really is a blink that just gets on my tits.

Any ideas what could be causing it? I don't think it's monitor related as my 6870 was fine in the same setup. So gotta be either GPU or driver related? Possibly also PSU related but a 500W should handle the 270x fine, right? Anyone experienced this?

Hey!

I would haz a guess that it might be a driver problem. I am saying this because my laptop has problems with the latest version as well. Then again mine is totally different.
Probably worth waiting for the new release due to the fact that AMD was quite busy the last few months and redirected a lot of their staff to other projects.

Does it nudge when the PC is at idle and you are doing completely nothing? If it is only when you load the GPU with a task like a video, game, etc... it starts switching between power profiles and hence the glitch. That might indicate a bad overclock (if you have one) or bad GPU BIOS (especially if flashed a custom one with your own profiles).

You can try uninstalling all of the driver components with the utility that AMD provides on their website and install fresh.
This should be your first step if you have not done it yet.

Hope it helps.

If you are using unofficial overclocking make sure to reset the display mode each time you overclock, this is a common problem with unoffical overclocking on AMD cards. There is an option for it on MSI afterburner.

If you aren't using unofficial overclocking mode then I am not sure sorry.

It could well be a common problem with AMD cards that's happening a lot recently.

I have an Ares 2 and got the flicker you mentioned as typing this message. What Tom didn't tell us in the reviews is all these Gpu's, every single last one of them has this issue. He probably didn't have it long enough to even notice.

Some people thought it was the Vrams getting too hot, others put it down to the memory clocks and voltages. It's slowy become apparent that a lot of the ROG cards are having this issue, especially the MATRIX PLATINUM series. I wasn't aware of any other brand having the issues mind but it sounds very familiar.

To be rid of my flickers i have to adjust the 2D clocks in Gpu tweak and that does the trick.

I might be waaayyyy off but should always explore anything possible.

Look through here; http://rog.asus.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?119-Radeon-Series-Graphic-Cards You'll probably find something familiar.

Hope this helps.

Same for me

I've started having this issue to and wasn't sure what could cause it. Kinda wondered if it could be either monitor or what but it probably is just driver-related... We shall see if it goes away with the next driver update.

By the way, I run a Sapphire Dual-X R9 280 with AMD's newer Omega Drivers.
