Hi Guys/Gals!

I'm new don't kill me if i miss something! :)

Looking to buy a new graphics card as the old one is starting to be sluggy (gtx 560ti)

I have around £250 (great british pounds!) I was looking at the 280x currently on offer at £230 on (can we mention store names it begins with an E?)

Asus R9 280X DirectCU II 3GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card

I have always has Nvidia's in the past but willing to change if something is better at the same price point!

Any help is muchly appreciated!

I have that card in my old rig. Its good, my one has some quality control issues but when that isn't happening it is very quiet and plays everything well. what games do you play and do you like to OC?

Thanks for the reply!

yeh i have heard some having noise/rattling issues so just wanted to make sure they are the best at this price point!

At the minute i'm playing watchdogs on low and Dota2, my old card is starting to show its age unfortunately!

I do tend to tweak with settings and overclock but if the base clock is good i might leave it

The only thing that stopped me was seeing the gtx 770 2GB at the same price or the 4GB at 290ish, just wanted to make sure I'm getting the best value for money/performance.

^^^ personally i'd save up £50 and buy a R9 290 myself but the 280/280x are still good cards (ive seen the 280 none x going for £185 (rebranded HD7950)

I'd say if you can you should buy a 290 but if not the best AMD partner brands are Sapphire, Powercolor and MSI. Asus are a bit hit and miss.

Hi!

Thank you both for your input! i'm going to save for the 290 :D

It'll be worth it :)
I wish I had held out for the aftermarket 290s. Instead I didn't and I got a 280x. Don't get me wrong, performance wise its decent, its just not nearly as much of an upgrade for most people.
What are you currently running?

Currently:

nvidia gtx 560 ti can't remember the brand i believe it's a Gigabyte
i5 3570k
Corsair 16GB DDR3 Vengeance
2x samsung ssd 840 evo

Hopefully the new upgrade will make it run smoothly :)

It's a Corsair 750W

I derped went to second page!

Have a smiley face :D

Agree with the R9 290. Hard to beat it bang for the buck. Performance of a GTX 780 but $100+ less. AMD really has the performance per dollar market cornered these days. The whole bit mining craze collapsing really helped drive down the prices but AMD has always been a little cheaper than Nvidia anyway.

Thanks for your input guys!

I went with the 290 in the end and it is a beast!

Sapphire R9 290 TRI-X OC 4GB

runs everything much more smoothly :)
