Hello Overclock3d!

My friend is willing to pay 1400€ MAX for a gaming desktop. He will be using it for gaming, would u guys have any nice setup recommendations?

E. He said he wants to play on stock, not OCing

Thanks in advance!

Have a little look about at getting a rig based around a 2500k or 2600k. And then compile all the components and we will tell you of it is good or not

I was thinking about i5 2500k, gtx 580, asrock p67 pro3 b3, 650 or 850w psu, WD Caviar Black 1tb, possible ssd for windows, some g.skill tri channel kit or dual channel, no idea on case yet.

Edit. forgot to say he would like to play on stock without OCing

Edited because of this which wasn't posted when I wrote it!

Well next month will a be a big deal since the next Intel cpus, motherboards and the first Nvidia card are due to be released but the basics remain the same.

Forgive me for doing rough calculations in £s but it's easier for me since I know that market! Just to give you some bones to build on...

CPU

i5 2500k or Ivy Bridge equivalent (~£170)

Cheapish aftermarket cooler since not OCing, I'm no expert at this range.. (£20)

Board & RAM

z68 or z77 mobo, lots of good ones out there but you might as well look for a pci-e 3.0 now (~£190)

Generic 8gb of ram, ram speed isn't important for gaming. Maybe some corsair vengeance 1866 (~£60)

HDDs/SSDs

120gb SSD, I would recommend an Intel 520 (~£150)

Generic HDD for storage. Size and price depending on how much he needs but they are expensive at the moment, a WD caviar black 1 tb is amongst the best (~£110)

GPU

7970/7950 or 660ti when it comes out. A sapphire 7950 is a nice card (~£350). I wouldn't go 5xx series.

PSU

corsair 850 (£110)

= £1160 (1400 euros)

What kind of games does he play?

Is your friend worried about aesthetics?

Is your friend willing to wait for ivy bridge and/or kepler?

How much storage does he need?

If your friend is ABSOLUTELY NOT going to oc, then you don't need to get a intel processor with the "k" at the end. CPUs like the 2500k(stock) is the same as the 2500, but it's cheaper. Essentially, no need to get a 2500k if you are not overclocking when you can get a 2500 for less.

You should probably convince your friend to oc because it's not that hard. I forgot how intel put it. It was something like "So easy your grandma can do it"

Okay, I sent that list of questions to him, thanks for that

I dont know but atleast here in Finland i5 2500k and i5 2500 cost the same.

I'll wait till the answers and post here again

E: he decided to get his cousin build him one, thread can be deleted
