New Gaming build need advice

wasn't thinking about overclocking the gpu because I read that the software wouldn't let you get any big gains and I'm firm on nvidea gpu's are there any with that in mind that you would recommend ?

I was actually talking about over-clocking the cpu with reference to the mobo but you can definitely get big gains on the right software on the latest gen gpus. Truthfully though, with a set up like this there are only a few games out there which would 'need' an over-clock on either.

I don't know about 670's not overclocking that well, most Msi 670 power editions go up to at least 1300mhz on the core (provided you don't have a bad card)

...you sure about that?

My KFA2 670 will only go to 1150 and another user with a Palit has maxed at 1205...
1300mhz seems very unlikely

Just the ones i've read up on most, because I was interested in purchasing them - I don't think it's an MSI exclusive.
The PCB IS custom, but I think the people were just lucky ones, tis all.

I don't know, some people are saying the triple overvoltage support in the recent afterburner 2.2.3 update helped a bit, for some it didn't really help at all. Some guy had a bad card and could 'only' get up to around 1250mhz, whereas I've seen someone go as far as 1360 (albeit with 100% fan speed)

I looked on another forum and there were loads of 670PE users - the latest Afterburner seems to have helped a lot of them, with quite a few getting close to 1300MHz. Highest I saw was 1380MHz, I believe - promising figures!

The over voltage just seems to be for the MSI PE and Lighting cards, i'm afraid :(
You just don't seem to have won the silicone lottery

I think the 680s are a good choice. Everyone says the 670 can be OC'ed to the speeds of a GTX 680. But no one mentions that you can also OC the 680 to even better performance. But for the price the GTX 670 is defo worth considering.

We do account for the 680 OC too. But considering half of the 670s can get up to between 1200-1300mhz, the 680 will only do the same, so it still doesnt justify the extra £150 you have to spend on a 680.
Also considering you only have to spend another 150 quid over a 680 and you can have 670 SLI which is far greater performance than the 680.

That's true, for the price the GTX 670s are amazing cards, but if you've got the cash laying around, then why not :D
Still I would prefer a 4gb 670 over a 2gb 680, because it adds the possibility to swap to triple screen gaming in the future :)
