thank you man! still not gpu folding at full potential because of the win 8 driver thing mentioned earlier, but one benefit of the gpu not being maxed out during folding is that i can still watch my movies and shows smoothly vs video not playing vary smoothly when the gpu is under 100% load so that means I can keep folding running a larger amount of the time in the background.
I am currently writing a large project log update right now which is show my new memory among other things. I am very pleased with it.
So far no updates about Folding on Windows 8. The latest Catalyst 12.11 Beta 11 and all the latest Windows updates, as well as the latest Folding @ Home Client, and still the same 50% GPU Utilization.
I have been having a little bit of fun playing around with a fresh installation of Windows 7 solely for Folding. I've also set it up to look like Windows 98/2000, mainly just for a bit of fun since I have a nostalgic feeling for that aesthetic and I've always hated the look of Windows 7. I doubt it will help performance in any substantial way, but it's not going to hurt either.
The GPU usage is just fine with my hardware on Windows 7, here is a screenshot from my Windows 7 install:
