New CPU and Motherboard

Hello everyone i need some help choosing the best possible CPU and Motherboard for around £250 together.

My old cpu and motherboard are intel E5500 @ 4 GHz and GIGABYTE G41MT-D3. They aren't very slow however with all of the new games coming out this year i don't think they will last much longer.

Any/all recommendations welcome.

there are many retailers out there that sell 'bare-bones' bundles (mobo, processor, ram, and cooler)

(eg: here, here and here)

but £250 is a bit tight for a rig that is expected to still be top-end in 2-3yrs. an extra £100-150 will definitely ensure it though

I was also looking at the i5 760 and some of the sandy bridge i5's, what do you think about them?

I would say with the i5 760 being within spitting range of the 2500k, a sandy bridge chip should not be overlooked.

I said overlooked lol. Since the 2500k is so close to the 760 in price. It will definitley overclock like a beast, and smoke the 760. But if it breaks your budget than the 760 will do fine.

You can get the Asus P8P67 LINK for £125, feature wise they are the same, I have one my self with a 2500k.

I dno about that Asus as i like the look of that Gigabyte board alot
