New build need some advice!

But what card did you have when you had G-sync?

G-sync is perfection. It removes the last limit. The fixed refresh rate of the monitor.
Fast Sync unlocks the GPU limit, but it still locked at a fixed refresh rate.

And if you go from 30-80 FPS in a sec, yes its a problem, but when do yo do that?
Normally you play around X fps +/- 5-10 fps, then the X goes gradually up or down, depending on area.
My screen can go from 30-165Hz. PUBG runs at 140fps +/- 5 in open areas, and lower in citys. In all other Syncs than G-sync. The screen would run at 165Hz and the show the frames at some point when the screen is ready. With G-sync it shows the number of frames i game at.
 
Well all going well all the new parts will be arriving tomorrow :).

I went for the 1080 instead of the TI in the end just due to funds and if i want to upgrade it later i can always trade the 1080 in and spend some extra to get the ti but for now it'll do.

If you are just gaming i would recommend you 7700k and Maximus VIII Hero. Yes it is Z170 but i saw them for 140 euro. That is serious bang for money. Just update BIOS and there is no difference. Also if you are on 1080p, or even 1440p GTX 1070, or 1070Ti are all that you need. 1080Ti won't do you any good.

What i would do if i had your current system is buy everything except CPU, MB, and RAM. 1070 will give you good boost, and you can w8 for Ryzen+ release and then decide. If it is good go for it, if not Z170 and 7700k are tried and tested.
 
The answer for perfection? as always, throw power at it. *if* you can keep your min FPS above 60 on a 60mhz monitor Vsync will be enabled but there will be no input lag. It really is as simple as that.
What, no, vsync always introduces plenty of input lag. You also can't go above 60 on a 60Hz monitor if you have vsync enabled since it caps the fps.

To me games feel like garbage with vsync enabled, with adaptive sync you can get away with lower FPS and still have decent input lag, otherwise you need to push FPS higher than the monitor's refresh rate. Tearing is less noticeable on a high refresh rate display which I'd recommend for gaming.

I personally went from 4k60Hz to 1080p144Hz and then 1440p165 with G-sync, and honestly the first upgrade was the more significant one for me. I don't really pay that much attention to graphical fidelity when immersed to the game, and high refresh rate with low input lag does wonders for the immersion.
 
The type of input lag I am talking about is when your monitor has Vsync enabled and thus locks you to the refresh rate of your monitor, but the FPS dip causes lag between you and the monitor. IE - control lag. So for example you aim up your sniper rifle and hit fire. However, there is a delay, and you miss. If you disable Vsync when you don't actually need it (IE when the frames are less than the sync rate of your monitor) this does not happen anywhere near as apparently. That is basically how Nvidia explain it.

As for massive refresh rates and low resolutions? it all depends on what type of gaming you are doing, and whether or not you will benefit from that. As an example, try running Fallout 4 above 70hz and watch what happens. You will totally bust the game. As you try and enter a console it will just repeatedly jump around crashing the game.

The same goes with other games of course. Massive refresh rates are something that need coding for (much like Super Widescreen et al) and thus some games just won't work properly at all.

If you are playing competitive games like CS:GO? then yes, that is the set up to have. However, if you are all round gaming and want to play a bit of everything it could well be a PITA.

Also, I do pay attention to graphical fidelity. Especially as I get older and my eyesight begins to fail me. Sounds to me like you are obviously playing some pretty frantic stuff if you don't have time to notice what it looks like. All horses for courses.

I too had a 4k 60hz screen. Gsync. Unfortunately at that time there really was no way to get 60FPS or even near it even with two top end cards (Titan Black) and then of course by the time Titan XM came along SLi was already beginning to get the heave ho. So it's only really been since the launch of the Titan XP that it would have been worth having and of course, it's long gone. I couldn't stand the BLB and had severe issues with it with a Fury X. So it had to go.

I now game on a 70hz 32" Freesync monitor using Adaptive. I find it more than acceptable. Especially because any game worth running at 4k can be DSR up to 4k 70hz and look great.
 
For me FastSync does wonders on 60Hz monitor. Games run as fast as they want, no lag like V-Sync on fast pace games, and no screen tearing.

Yup, Nvidia's own Vsync apps are every bit as effective as the posh versions IMO.

Vsync was the problem, so Adaptive and Fast both aim to tackle that problem.

But that depends on how disturbing you find tearing. I'd rather opt for faster refresh rate even at the expense of graphics card, just for that responsiveness, especially since 144Hz tearing isnt that noticeable, though of course your mileage may vary. Adaptive sync is the proper fix, but it requires a GPU made of unobtanium or a monitor with an unreasonable price premium outside sales...

It is not as good as no sync, but it is close to no difference. And for me tearing is a method of torture. Mainly it is down to what compromise you choose.
