New build advice please

Cheers Tom.  I'll go for that.  Now hoping for the ATI 6000s before Jan VAT increase

TOGEdit: Just checked out the 998626 Ridgeback that TTL suggested but the heatspreader is not compatible with the Noctua D14.

I'll see if I can get hold of 998805 which is Redline with the smaller FrostByte spreader that does fit under the D14 but otherwise is exactly the same RAM.

i'm too impatient to wait for the ATI 6000s to come out (I'll probably regret it) so I just bought these.

Silverstone FT02

i7-950

Asus R3E

2 x MSI Hawk 460s

Corsair AX850

Crucial C300 64G

Spinpoint F3 1TB

Noctua D14

3 x 2G Mushkin Redline Frostbyte 998805 DDR3-1600 CL6-8-6-24

Thanks for all the help.  Great forum as always.

Finished building the rig and did a quick and dirty oc - cpu to 4 gig (Vcore 1.22/Multi 20/BClk 200/Ram 1603, 6-8-6-24) and gpu to 850 core/975 mem (stock volts). Prime stable for 3 hrs and 3DMark Vantage Performance = 33770.

Pics to follow shortly.

Had a bit of a chance to play and get my head round i7 overclocking.  It shaping up pretty well but I think I'm running out of psu headroom even with the AX850 when I push for high overclocks simultaneously on the graphics and cpu..  Gonna try one of the SLI Hawk 460s hooked up directly to a spare dedicated offboard 450W PSU.  Temps are pretty good and the CPU clocks easily up to 4 Gig stable with only 1.2V Vcore.  The most amazing thing is how much oc headroom there is on the Muskin RAM.  Runs easily at 1700 MHz with tight 6-8-6-24 timings and only 1.65V.
