hey Guys! so im im upgrading my current hardware for an AMD FX-8150 and Crosshair V formula to a 3930k and....well thats just it i really don't know what board to get . :( I am looking at the ASRock x79 Extreme 11, the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme and the ASUS Delux (Don't know the exact nomenclature) but non the less i would love some help :D any suggestions? own any and Happy? sad? enraged??? please help :(

*** note *** noise will not bother me, price is really no matter, been saving a while for this, and i want the MOST KICK ASS system i can have today, and in the future! :)

The best board out is the Rampage IV Extreme really.
Can't go wrong with that tbh. If you have the money, that'd be my choice any day.

ASrock?
I'd only buy Asus, Gigabyte or MSI for motherboards. Don't quite trust ASrock yet.

The manufacturers have made some amazing boards for certain generations. For Z77, MSI are probably the best, for X79, Asus are at the top really. And the R4E is the best they do...

They just tend to be more reliable, better quality and offer better performance really. Not that there's anything wrong with the P9X79 deluxe/pro etc, and I'm sure you'll be happy with most boards you'd buy. But the R4E is just the best really, and if you have the money, why wouldn't you? :p

Im a big big fan of the Sabertooth line and think theyre pretty much the best motherboard for whatever platform theyre being used for. Theyre a little pricey in 2011 flavor but if you can swing the price tag, that would be the one Id choose. Cant go wrong buying one of the most bulletproof motherboards on the market.

Don't get me wrong its one hell of a board and its color scheme i personally like but i do want something with 4 way sli/crossfire compatible, like i said before this is a "because i can" machine, and i do want to do 4x 8970 eventually and water cool it properly :) but thank you for the advice!

Also, are you going to OC the 3930K?

I sure hope you are... If so, I would definitely go with the Asus rampage IV extreme, along with another page of reason why, its just awesome :P

I believe I will go with the ASRock for now, as weird as that sounds newegg is offering their extended return on the motherboard and the reviews (including Linus's sound promising enough), if i run into any issues or am disipointed i will return it and get a R4E and save almost $200 :3 but otherwise i will keep it just for the unbelievable upgrade ability :3 Thank you evey one for helping e narrow it down :)

Nothing wrong with ASRock. I had a 780G board for a couple years and I just pounded on that thing! I had several chips on that thing and overclocked the nads off them all with voltages up to 1.6!!! Id buy another but Asus is my first choice with MSI being 2nd.

If you want the best gaming performance you shouldn't look at the X79 platform at all, get the 3770K on a Z77 platform. It has PCI 3.0. X79 has 2.0... ivy bridge vs sandy bridge... The ivy bridge has better performance per clock.
However, if you plan to do other things with your PC, like rendering or other CPU intensive applications. The X79 is for you!

Now, I want to know more about what other components you plan to get for your system. How many monitors you plan to have...

I will be gaming alot but also alot of AutoCad stuff, good amount of like Reason ( for music making) and video editing :P so i do feel the need for the x79 umph :3 and i have 2 monitors and plan to get three. i also have a 7870, its a few moths old form when i built the system and im going to get 2x 8970 when the drop :3 and all the others are what you would expect, SSD, large storage drives, HAF 932 case, 950 watt MKII silencer powersupply. ect ect.

Where did you read that x79 only has PCI 2.0?

Ok, I see your need for more CPU power. Last year I used a 6 years old PC for SolidWorks. It's a pain...
I can't tell how the 8000 series is going to be... But I understand you are aiming to get the...
As a X79 motherboard, For the best OC I'd go with the Rampage IV Extreme, it's a pleasure to OC and to built. And I got the best performance out of it.
Personally I haven't built a system with ASrock X79 Extreme11, but I've seen great reviews about it.
The delux is less OC beast, but it's a solid choice nonetheless.

If you want to get highest OC, I'd go with the rampage. It's just unbeatable right now...
