Your "friend" should know that OC'ing from each different brand is not a massive difference and generally speaking use the same terminology. Even a simple google search will give you all your answers.

If I understand correctly, it's not about the overclocking but that his buddy can get Asus parts for a better price.

The thing for me was that msi had oc genie II. Because i'm bad in overclocking
And because i know that its better to oc in bios i could get a price of my friend
He would buy parts in his name and company info so i think he will have better service from asus
then we normal costumers have. But he can get gigabyte also. The main thing is i need good motherboard.
If its better to get msi ill ask him if he could get if not ill buy it on the internet.

From what I've heard and read, the UP7 is a phenomenal board, but hilariously expensive. And yes, it does look the business. But it's more made for dry ice and liquid nitrogen overclocking. On air or water it does not perform significantly better than the MPower while costing about double.

I'm not really familiar with the UP5, but at least where I live it is 1.9 times as expensive as the MSI Z77A-GD65 and 1.7 times as expensive as the Z77 MPower, so unless you get an absolutely amazing price I think both of these boards will be a lot more expensive than the MSI's that have been suggested further up, while having practically identical performance as far as I know.

EDIT: To be clear, they're not bad boards as far as I know, but very expensive for what they offer imho.

Well since it's only coming out I haven't seen any reviews yet, but the "non-gaming" GD65 is very good from my experiences, so this should in theory also be very nice. However, there are of course no guarantees

If you can wait a bit for the reviews you'll know for certain. I can certainly recommend MSI as a company, and their Z77 lineup has in general been very well received, so there's no reason to assume this won't be somewhere between very good and great.

If you can get asus boards through your friend for cheap then ya do that if not then MSI and gigabyte are the way to go.

Haswell will not bring any major changes. A 10% cpu performance is what is expected but since the current Ivy architecture is more than enough for gaming or rendering, the extra 10% is more of a luxury.

Z77Mpower is the best Motherboard on the market currently(price and performance in mind IMO for OC'ers) and is way more than enough for any enthusiast.

I love the design and colourscheme of the the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD4H /UP4 TH /UP5 TH. The MSI MPower is a very strong contender at that pricepoint, but if you for some reason rather have one of the Gigabytes i dont think you will be dissapointed with their overclocking abilities.

+1 for that. Even Sandy Bridge is still perfectly viable if you get a good deal for a CPU (at least in my opinion).

@OP: If your intention really is to build a Haswell system, then of course you can wait, but if you don't specifically want to wait for that there really is no strong reason to do so.

I love that they don't have any stupid gun-heatsinks or stuff like that on them (very disappointed with the Big Bang X79 board about that, although I'm not in the market for an x79 rig). Very business-like and professional, yet still packing a powerful punch when need be.
