Need Stress Testing Programs

I'm currently finalizing my overclocking, and have used Prime95... only to find that it gets split across both cores, and I can't do two seperate runs. I don't know if CPU-Z and Prime95 are ready for C2D, but they aren't working terribly well with my AW9D at the moment (found that BIOS beta 1.3 is out, will flash it tonight).

Anywho, I used 3dmark05 and 06 last night, C2D E6600 @ 3.51GHz would complete 3dmark06 but would freeze the system on the last test of 05... DAMMIT. 3.48GHz would do both, so that seems to be my high point; are there any other recommended programs that can stress test my system, something that'll run both cores to the max at the same time?

Thanks in advance, -TJS

Right on, will give 'em a shot tonight...;)

For Prime95, I take it I can set the affinity to core 0, start, and then open Prime95 again and then set for core1? I ask because when I did it on 'auto', I'd try to open Prime95 again to run a second instance and it'd flash for a moment but wouldn't open a second window.

Thanks, -TJS

Wirelessly posted (LG Fusic: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4719/1378; en; U; ssr))

theres actually a setting in prime that lets u set the affinity. and to open two instances u will need to make another folder and copy the program to it and open second instance from there. cheers!

Can`t remember the wheres or why I got this from, but a prog called SP2004 (Stress prime).

U can run multiple instances of it, it`ll test u`r cores, processors and memory.

you can run two instances of SuperPI as well , Just create two seprate folders with diff names, extract the super Pi files to both and then rename the .exe in one of your files to something different, ie. SUPER_PI_1.EXE, then run them both at the same time

The Fragster's idea works great, made another folder and put P95 in it, opened both and set affinity to 0 on one, 1 on the other, pulled up Windows Task Manager and saw both cores go to 100%... :D perfectomundo! Appreciate everyones input...

Now for another question! (they never end...) Is there a real difference between any of the programs when stress testing, or is one just as good as the other? If not, I'll stick with Prime95 and then 3dmark05/06...

Stay cool, -TJS:cool:

Well things like 3dmark obviously stress your entire system whereas prime95 and superPI focus mainly on CPU and Memory settings

Prime is going to be the best stress program for your CPU hands down. The best stress program for your memory, IMHO, is going to be a 32mb run of Super Pi. And then as llwyd pointed out, the 3dmark series does a good job of testing everything and letting you know whether or not everything is going to play nicely together at your given speeds.

Alrighty then, thanks for all of your help guys (gals)! Now that I'm armed (always been dangerous) it's time to complete my fine tuning!

PS: I'm listening to The B-52's 'Love Shack', and Fragster's avatar is head-bopping in time to the tune... lol.
