I have been having issues with my PC randomly shutting down and trying to reboot for several weeks now and although I am quite savvy this one is completely got me stumped.
It all started in may when I was on windows 10 and an update caused os not to boot ever since that point and despite several clean os installs either win 10 or win 8.1 this issue of shutting down continues.
There is nothing in the event log other than the error and critical telling me the pc shut down, nothing else there to indicate what caused it
There are 0 dump files infact there is not even a minidump folder
I am currently on win 8.1
The pc was working perfectly fine untill recently so no I am in a process of elimination trying to figure whats wrong
Things that change in the PC this year
Added an r7 370
Added an ssd and made it my OS drive
Replaced the Ram
Added an AIO to the APU
Upgraded the 500watt psu to a corsair 600
Changed the case
Took apart the gfx and painted the the red bits blue, replaced the tim

The issue is rather random, yesterday I used the PC untill 12:30 in the morning at which point I had several crashes

Event log shows error and critical 00:36 then again 00:45 and again 01:02 at which point I just went to bed.

I now have the gfx card out and running with apu to see if perhaps I broke the card

Oky doke.. we have a base.

When the system shuts down what are you doing? Is it under stress, is it Idle? To rule out voltage or heat issues.

Are all your Sata leads OK, sounds very much like the behavior of a hinky Sata lead (I could be wrong).

Thanks for input Wraith.
Situation varies on crash sometimes I have just stopped gaming or youtube others its just browsing the web. so its both at load and at idle
Its been stable so far today without the gfx card in.
I will test some other sata cables and report back with findings.

So its been a few days and its still running stable with the gfx card out of the rig.
This leads me to think 1 of the following
Gfx card is faulty
Motherboard faulty
PSU fault
Currently rebuilding a rig for my niece so will try the gfx card in that once

Good findings and great idea try the GPU in a different rig. I'm leaning towards the GPU being faulty, possibly something isn't quite right after you painted it and re assembled.

We're hoping so too, it might be worth stripping the card down again and give it the once over before you repaste.

still waiting for the other rig to update windows to be able to install the damn drivers for the card, might just bite the bullet and slap win10 on it as its been stuck checking for updates for 2 hours lol. card must be working as its displaying to monitor.

Todays update.
Gfx has been in the other system all day and I have been running several stress tests on it and so far no issues.
My own system has also been stable without the gfx card in.

I think I can rule out the gfx card now. This leaves 2 fault options, either the psu is not operating correctly and causing the random crashes or there is a problem with the motherboard., so tomorrow I will try the psu in the other system and if thats not faulty I will try the gfx card back in my main rig using the lower pci slot.

Roger that, thanks for the update. We'll see how you get on tomorrow.

did a couple of passes and no issues with the memory.
Have the card back in my pc now and back on windows 10 but using my older evga psu so far no issues but its only been a few hours.
I wonder if perhaps when I sleeved the corsair psu I have not seated the pins correctly or another possiblity is the driver for the card as currently back using 15. rather than the most recent

Its been another day of stability so far (fingers crossed), I am beginning to think that the 16.3.2 drivers with the hotfix was the cause of my problems.
I seriously doubt my psu as that functioned as expected in the other rig
I'm going to stay at the last 15 version for at least 1 more week then I will change up to confirm if it is the drivers.

Still running sweet with no issues, I am tempted to try the latestd rivers to confirm if that was the issue, that said I am still on my old evga psu aswell so thats not fully ruled out yet

Little update
Today I replaced the Corsair PSU back in my rig and set valley running and then completely forgot till I remembered after having my tea.
3 hours running a bench cycle no errors

The rig is in the same state it was in when I started having issues except 1 thing
The gfx drivers, I am 99% at this point the drivers are the problem.
Gonna leave it a week then change to new drivers and confirm.

It sure looks to be the drivers now although we can't rule out bad PCI slot placement, loose cable connection ect ect ect. Just happy you have a working RIG and thanks for keeping us appraised of the situation.

2 crashes today >< no idea why no dump files to be found so I am back to trying to troubleshoot again lol

Almost 2 weeks of stability so it looks like it was the Corsair PSU after all, no matter how hard I push my system with its EVGA 500w psu I cannot get even a hint of instability.
Now then either I bought this unit faulty, very likely as it came from ebay, or I screwed up something when I sleeved the cables. trying to locate a psu tester I can borrow for a day to test it.
