Im about to build my new rig but im not sure what brand and wattage my PSU have to be. I also wont be doing dual GPU setup in the future.

These are the components:

Intel Core i5-4570 3.2GHz Quad-Core
Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1150
Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600
Crucial M500 120GB 2.5" SSD
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" 5400RPM
Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB

Thanks guys

We're also going to need a budget mate, otherwise we could keep recommending units that you can't afford. Don't skimp on the PSU, but we need a budget first. With this set-up and two GTX 760s you'll be looking at a 750 Watt unit.

If I can make two other remarks:

- Unless you're doing editing/rendering, you're not going to need 16GB of RAM. Most games barely use 4 so save yourself some money and get a 2x4GB kit. It's an easy upgrade later on anyway.

- Spend the money on a quicker HDD. 5400RPM is usually for laptop drives or large storage drives that only hold images/videos/music. Considering your SSD is not that big and you might have to install some programs/games onto your HDD, you'd be better off with a 7200RPM Caviar Blue.

He said he wouldn't be doing SLI... in which case the first PSU to spring to mind would be RM550 if budget allows, but you could even get away with a 450w from a decent brand :)

I wouldn't recommend less than 16GB now. Games/apps at the moment can't use more than 2GB (3GB LAA) as a 32-bit process, but 64-bit is now becoming mainstream. This increases the size of addressable memory to way over than what is supported by hardware and OS (2^64 bytes).

If you are on a budget then it does makes sense but otherwise not.

Oops mis-read, my bad. An RM 550 would indeed be good. Or another series/brand if it's too expensive for him.

Judging from the spec list I figured this is in fact a 'budget' build, and I think he could spend the money better. For a gaming rig it really isn't going to matter.

Yeah like I said, if it was a budget build I would ignore it :)

As a general point, a dedicated gaming rig will still most likely be used for other applications and although the game's process itself may not occupy more than 4GB the last thing you want is other apps in memory causing the game to hard fault :(

True, but I think for now he's better off with 8GB and a faster HDD than the Caviar Green. He can easily add another 8GB kit down the line if the first one isn't enough :)

Yeah that's true, you definitely don't want a green for main storage.

Hi guys! Thank you all for the additional information you gave me. I'm sorry that i wasn't able to place my budget. It would be maybe around $100 - $120. Is there a good PSU for that price?

Got it. I will be saving the additional extra on the 2x8GB and change WD green to WD blue.

By the way, the Corsair RM 550 watts costs PHP 4,990.00 is there a PSU cheaper than that that has good quality too?

This is a link(http://www.tipidpc.com/useritems.php?username=PCHub) where I base the components I will be purchasing because PSUs that aren't in the list are probably not available in my country.

Thanks again guys.

The Corsair GS600 maybe?

Ah! But I'm hoping I can get a 80 plus Bronze or Gold for a lesser price than 4,990.00 (corsair rm550).

Another option would be the Seasonic G-serie 550Watt.

Yeah! I was thinking of that too. So that would also be a good PSU for the components overall?

If I were to make the 760 to a R9 270X, 650TI or 750TI would the 550 watt be still good?

Yeah, a few Corsair PSUs are actually made by Seasonic, they are perfectly good :)

Also please use the edit button instead of posting twice in a row, thanks :)

Seasonic make excellent quality units. In fact; some higher end Corsair units are made by Seasonic. They are known as one of the best manufacturers PSU wise.

Why would you pick a slower graphics card?

Thank you so much! I'm really confident to use the G550 now. :)

Oh! I'm really sorry. I'm not used to this but I wont do it again. :)

Because maybe I couldn't go for the 760 price. :( My main use for my rig is upgrade from my 5 yr old PC and use it for web development with 1 or 2 VMs (linux). I might be wrong but would the GPU greatly help in VMs performance?

Hi

I have a Silverstone Strider 500 watt ps powering a similar rig. See the 250D thread. It works fabulous and its fully modular. I love the corsair units though and any of the RM suggestions works

AFAIK VM are greatest impacted by CPU and Ram.

Really? Thats cool because the Seasonic G550 will still be shipped but the Silverstone Strider Plus 500W is available in my place already and is cheaper by about $10-12. Maybe Strider Plus would be a good choice too right? :)

Oh! I got it but will a good graphics card make the OS(VM) UI more responsive or enable the UI features like transparency?
