hi.

just reinstalled windows and zone alarm bugged out completly so i need another firewall, not sygate personal firewall used it and didnt like it.

any ideas ?

if anyone wonder, zone alarm is so efficient it even blocks ie from performing a windows update and all other applications also and doesnt ask if any of them should be given internet access.

Regards

been there done that :/ and the only setting that did work was with the firewall off which isnt much of a use.

uninstalled it and reinstalled and rebooted like 8 times or so and then za asked if firefox should be allowed access so now it works as it did the last time i used it.

been thinking about the pro version but their is always the money problem.

and think i would be better of with a decent router and using a free firewall for the moment.

Totally agreed.

For the past 3 years all i have run is my router firewall, good AV, and alternative browsers.

Not once have i got ANY spyware or viruses, or been 'hacked'

Could you give Sygate another try? It might be ugly but once you get used to it then it is relatively straight forward.

got tired of all the windows sygate constantly put up.

every single time i used wmp or powerdvd for example the firewall kept asking if they should have access or was blocked from access.

Tbh, if you've got a router, you don't need a firewall.

have no router but intend to buy one when the economy allows.

and windows firewall is also surprisingly good

yes it is but i want a firewall that also blocks outgoing connections and not incoming connections.

have not had a virus for over 2 years now despite using questionable software sometimes.

actually the last time i had virus was when i had norton av installed.

have never been hacked but someone has tried to hack my computer, but it stopped after i contacted my isp with information about ip time and dates.

Yea im with XMS on this one. My router + Firefox + the occasional scan has kept me completely free of intrusions. The downstairs PC which uses IE has logged several thousand access attempts in ZA

I have to admit in my opinion windows firewall offers slim to nil protection dont rely or use as a firewall. Router may have firewall but you need a software firewall as well to protect your PC, I used to use ZA at home but at work on 2000 network ZA had bugs/issues which could not be configured around (fine with xp), I now use comodo & home & work which I recommend - scores very highly in leak testing, very secure in my opinion.

Not really. An spi router's not going to be very good at stopping out bound traffic, but as long as you have spi installed in the first place, as well as an anti-virus program, it shouldn't be an issue.

I suppose fair enough & if you are careful you wont get nothing come through, I do like the fact they leak test firewalls to limit the damage if something does come through.

I think ZA Pro Suite is an excellent piece of kit. Love the anti-this `n that.

However - I have known for a long time that it is not the friendliest gamers firewall. But I like it >.<

I dunno about free ones, maybe give XMS` solution a try, I mean at the point of release of sp2 it was fairly poor, but they must have advanced it a tad since.

Thing that bothers me about dropping ZA altogether is that it blocks 50million things in so many months, mostly pinger stuffs and sniffs, what will I do without it, does Win-firewall act as well ? All these intrusions hamper u`r performance, especially if some1 nuerotic pc gets an answer it likes.

What`s Nod like ?
