im also leaning more towards the Maximus Vi hero. Both MSI GD65 and the hero seem pretty identical from a newbie's perspective

Don't think SLi will work as I heard SLI don't work with 4x speeds???? Z87 only has 16 lanes of PCI-E and with 2 GFX Cards a Sound Card and Wifi Card the speeds would be (GFX card x8/x4 (the x8 may drop down to a 4),Sound x1, wifi x1. Correct me if im wrong.

hmm, didn't think of that.

looking at specs it will run at dual pci-e 3.0 8x, effectively pci-e 2.0 16x. it will pose no problem

PCI-e 3.0 slots will run independently from the pci-e 1x slots. I think they are run off the chipset.

Get the MSI GD 65 over the Hero. Not worth the extra money if it's effectively the same thing as you stated.
