Hey all!

I'm looking for a motherboard which will support:

4770k cpu
corsair h110 cpu cooler
2 way sli gtx 780
Creative Sound Blaster ZxR PCIe Sound Card
Dual band pci express wireless adapter

ive been looking at the maximus vi hero, and the z87 GD65 msi gaming
but im very unsure if theres enough pci slots to fit all of these cards.

please help :c!

money is no problem, and yes i plan on overclocking :D

im just concerned if all of these components will fit on the motherboard ;/

provided both of these gtx 780's use a dual slot cooler and not a tri slot cooler both of your suggested motherboards should be fine.

the asus direct cu cards are tri slot card and WILL block some of your pci lanes.

go for a cooler design which is either reference or another dual slot cooler

hmm...do you have any recommendations?

is reference good enough?

thank you for helping me so far!

edit: If i go for sli direct cu2 ill only be left with 1 pcie slot above the cards correct?
Edit2: also, if i go 1x stock cooler, and 1x direct cu2 i can also fit in both pci cards aslong as stock cooler is on top right?

reference will give you enough room, give me a link to the site you plan on purchasing off and i'll make you a recommendation.

oh Im actually buying all these parts locally, they have stock and direct cu available, so what do u think of a combination? (1x stock on top and 1x direct cu2 below)

Edit: i think i could sacrifice one pcie slot since hero has decent on board sound, would this configuration leave me with enough room for the wireless pci card?

Get an Asus sound card rather than Creative.

Asus GTX 780 DirectCU II is actually a dual slot card, but it does seem to stick out a bit:

2.5 Slot card, I'd say.
You'll always want one empty slot between cards to leave room for airflow. SLI cards will already run hot, and if you don't cool them properly it will only get worse.

Good alternatives would be:

MSI GTX 780 Gaming:

EVGA GTX 780 ACX:

Or Gigabyte Windforce:

can you please send me a link to your wireless card?

i personally would match both of my crossfire or sli cards, for the looks!

Should work like this:

Although if the cooler is indeed 2.5 Slots you might have issues fitting the WiFi card. Do you need a WiFi card btw? An ethernet connection, or even powerline adaptors, are much quicker and more stable.

If you do want the WiFi module, then you'll have to research how far the cooler of the DCU II card sticks out.

unfortunately a wifi card is a must, i dont mind using a usb adapter if all fails, aslong as i get my soundcard in there im happy :D

i use the same wireless card in my rig and it works wonders :).

you should get the dual slot gpus, if you buy the direct-cu cards you will not be able to use 2 slots of space under either card, only leaving the top lane available to you wireless or soundcard!

go for the stock card, the titan (pretty much) cooler on the 780 will do a good job anyways.

Read above, the DCU II is officially a dual slot card.

ok, have looked a asus' website and looked at a few pics of the card and done some measuring after looking at the spec sheet.

i can confirm the DCU card is a dual slot card and therefore you should be able to fit both your wireless and soundcards with ease.

apologies for being wrong in my previous posts, the initial pictures i had seen were very deceptive.

I will try my best in future to avoid making such mistakes again

edit: here is what this overhang looks like side on

Good find on the picture! I couldn't find one. I also thought it was a bit higher (2.5 slot or something) judging by the picture posted on top of this page.

But in the end;
Yes, the GTX 780 DCU II card *will* fit :)

W0O0O0OT music to my ears, 2X GTX 780 DC2 coming right up :D!!!

this thread made my day!
thanks so much everyone!

im also leaning more towards the Maximus Vi hero. Both MSI GD65 and the hero seem pretty identical from a newbie's perspective :P
