Need help with a Ryzen build

Hey folks,
I need some advice on a Ryzen build used for some light-ish video editing (DaVinci Resolve) and light gaming.
Videos will be mostly around 2.7k resolution, working screen resolution 3440x1440 and 2560x1080 (not sure on the second one :D )

Aiming for roughly 400€ in a mb and cpu combination.

A 1TB m.2 drive, and some RAM (the drive will be added later)

Looking for good value overall. The rest of the parts will be re-used.

Thanks in advance and stay safe!!!!!

Those boards might still need a bios update before supporting a 3rd gen Ryzen, but there are some out there that have it on the box as being ready for them.

Thanks guys, I'll probably go for a R7 3700x

I do have "some" flexibility pricewise. (I'd say a 100 quid more isn't too far out of the budget, but id rather stay below)
I haven't built a system in a long time (my current mb and cpu are z97 and a Xeon), and I'm COMPLETELY out of the loop....

What sort of gain do get if i use a x-series motherboard over the b-series?

Sorry for the questions, need to put this together rather quickly

I thought I'd need a X4xx or X5xx series mb? The price comparison site I use suggested that?

Nope that's rubbish.

X over B has Multi GPU support, StoreMi (which doesn't exist anymore), and maybe few more chipset lanes. Also, on X boards you get better bells and whistles maybe wifi6, faster LAN, etc.

If you are going for a single GPU and don't plan to overclock 3950X there is no major advantage on X chipset.

B450 Tomahawk MAX is the board I would buy.

Thanks for the explanation - since I frequently work with videofiles in 2.7k/4k resolution several gb in size, although not professionally, would I benefit of said lanes?

Here is a rough b selection of parts so far: https://geizhals.at/?cat=WL-1527137

NOTE: RAM and SSD on that list are JUST PLACEHOLDERS for now. So I'm open for suggestions.

The videoediting is what I need the beef of my upcoming machine for. I do game, but it's not a priority.
I'd like to hone in on a build over the next couple of days, so I can order asap.

Thanks guys:notworthy:

Lanes are used for a few things. Firstly your GPU usually uses 16. Then you have stuff like sound cards (not onboard) that use 1 lane, and storage (NVME or PCIE SSD) that use up to four.

Having more lanes open is not like memory lanes, where you can increase traffic. Devices are set to use so many and won't use more. For example if you added too much NVME storage your GPU would drop to 8 lanes, but you just make sure that whatever you are putting in there does not "over use" lanes.

The CPU itself assigns 24 lanes. This means 16 for the GPU, and 8 for most probably two X4 NVME SSDs. However, things like network cards also use lanes.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-Express-Gigabit-Ethernet-Network/dp/B00LPRS36K

Is an example. That uses four lanes (note the X4). This means it will not physically fit into a X1 slot, so you would either have a dedicated X4 slot (not found on cheap boards) or you would fit it into a X16 slot (shorter cards can go into full length slots).

X570 provides more lanes via the PCH (or chipset) so it's doubtful that you would run out. And besides, on my low end X570 board it simply does not have the physical slots to allow you to overload the lanes and reduce the GPU lanes any way. There are a couple of X1 slots on my board, a single X16 slot full length and a full length X4 slot.

You will be completely fine with B450 Tomahawk.

Components should arrive tomorrow. Thanks for the quick help guys!

I am excited about this build, I built the last AMD machine aaaaaaages ago, before I got my first core2duo, must be at least 15 years.

Yay !

Get us some pics dude. Always nice seeing new rigs put together :)

Oh and Ryzen.
