Need Help Understanding

I'm new to all this stuff so bear with me, i just got a new set-up from aria its awesome but am struggling to understand why windows doesn't see 4.00gb of RAM. Its only seeing 3.87gb of RAM and i don't know why. These are some screens any help or suggestion on why this is would be awesome.

Specifications:

• Intel® Core™ i3-540 Overclocked @ 4.30GHz - Dual Core CPU

• Mushkin 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 Blackline - 996744

• Gigabyte GA-H55M-USB3 Intel H55 DDR3 Motherboard

Windows is probably reserving the extra for some process. Check your task manager , go into your resource manager to see how the ram is being used. Its not uncommon for different programs and different configurations to read different amounts of memory.

No its not that iv been doing some reading on the matter and with gigabytes on-board graphics it's always going to take between 128 and 256 of memory. People that have been having the same problem have found out its a bios glitch and nothing can be done about it at the moment. It sucks but its only 160 megabytes. Am sure i can live without it.

I am using a xfx 6870 black and there is a option to disable it but like i have mentioned i have read up on it and it looks like a bios glitch so just have to wait. One other question while your looking why is my DRAM only at 588mhz when the ram is supposed to be 1600mhz? I don't have to tell you that 588 + 588 doesn't make 1600.

The 588mhz is the clock speed, while the 1600mhz is the running speed. Since it's DDR3 you multiply it by 3 and you get 1764mhz. That's what I was told, no idea if it's right though.

EDIT: I'm gonna do some Googling to verify

EDIT: Ok well what my friend told me appears to be wrong. Your RAM is running a slower than usual if I've come to understand it properly, you might need to go into the BIOs and manually set the DRAM Frequency.

i ha this issue when i first installed 4gb in my rig first off go into msconfig-boot-advanced options and untick maximum memory then reboot.

also check in the bios for all ram to make sure its there

Done all that it makes no differenced

.

When i go in to the bios it sees 4gb on the nose and the speed in the bios is set to 558mhz and the option above that one sets it to 1764mhz should i do that.

I have the exact same rig, mate - an i3-540 in a GA-H55M-USB3. The correct setting is 667 Mhz which gives you a 1333 Mhz result (DDR 3 is only two channels, not three as someone said above) This should be set automatically by the BIOS if everything is working right.

The RAM speed is determined in Nehalem chips by the on-chip memory controller (known as QPI, Quick Path Interconnect) which is fixed at 1333. It does respond to overclocking the base clock though, so if you bump that up you can take advantage of higher speed RAM. If you're using 1600 Mhz RAM you can use the Smart Six utility (on the disc that came with your Mobo) to overclock to just the right speed - bump the base clock to 160 Mhz and the RAM will be running in its happy place.

The only change I made in my BIOS was to change the disc interface from IDE to ACHI, and to set up a 2-disc RAID0 array. I have 4 Gb which the system sees all of, but reports (via right clicking "computer" and choosing "properties") that only 3.74Gb is usable.

I hope that helps.

Did some messing in the bios and got the speed to this.

Is this just below 1600mhz or do you have to have it at 1600mhz and its not 800 time 2
