NEED HELP!!!!!! Temps are rising!!

Oh and the patient is still laying on his death bed lol, i suppose ill just put it down to a learning experience.

i could try to fit another capacitor to see if that would help but ill probably get this new rig and forget about my trusty old amd 64.

Will probably be discarded to the graveyard i have in my upstairs cupboard.

I've been asking a few other people and ive been swayed towards intel, im going to get an intel e8600 i cant remember the clock speed but i think it was good, also an i45 i board these arre £147 for the cpu and £92 for the board.

I'm just after some decent ram now and i think ill be ok.

I just want it to cool better, and after seeing yours im thinking its really needing it.

Any ideas on keepin it cool for starters?

In my opinion go for a "cheap" but good case if you don't already have one, and a good heatsink. I bought the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (it won't fit in all cases, you'll have to pay attention to that) and the HAF-932 from CM.

Investing on a case is a very good solution because, not only a case with a good airflow will keep your system cooler and help it live longer, but the case itself is not like electronic components that go bad, but will serve you always at 100%. There are cases that have better cooling performance, and cases that have worst. So I believe this is trully a factor to consider.

The principles have been already discussed. And these are:

a) Good and correct airflow from a good (not necessarily expensive) case. Usually all front and bottom fans suck air into the case, and rear and top fans blow it out (heat always goes up). Don't have fans pushing air against each other.

b) No obstacles (cables etc) that hinder the airflow.

c) A good heatsink (Thermalright or Noctua preferrably) is very important.

d) Dust is an enemy of electronics. It covers the parts and heatsinks and hinders them from dissipating the heat to the passing air. Keep your PC clean!

e) Have reasonable expectations, taking the ambient temperature into consider. GPUs work in different temps. I got upset when I saw my new GTX-285 at app. 80 Celsius but I googled it and learned that this is considered absolutely normal.

I would recommend though an additional fan blowing towards your GPU to help it breath better.

Ahhh i just got another pc from my G/F's mum an i checked to see if i could put my ram into it to make it a little faster and it turns out that the ram modules have been zapped.

One of them is in perfect working order but the other two are just not working, i tried to put them back into my pc in different combinations and nothing works, but one definitely does in the other pc ive got so im going to make do with this for a little while.

Specs are pretty poop, Its got:

winxp +sp3

80Gig HDD

64MB GPU (on the mobo)

2.6GHZ single core pentium

and about 740MB (reported RAM)

ITs kinda lame but its getitng me on the internet at a decent speed.

I just won't be playing any good games either but i can wait.

I Agree a case is like a tattoo it"ll be there for a long time so be sure its something you can live with and MOST OF ALL MOD.

New rig up and running

Well I finished putting it together and now its here and doing its stuff, I have listened to as much as i could but some things i just couldn't afford.

Heres goes:

WIN XP + SP3

AMD Phenom 2 x4 940 Black Edition 3.0ghz (CPU)

Corsair - TWIN2X4096-6400C5 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) (DDR2 RAM)

MSI DKA790gx Mobo (MOTHERBOARD)

evga 8800gs 384meg gpu (VID CARD)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (CPU COOLER)

G7 580 watt Power extreme psu (POWER SUPPLY)

500 gig internal hdd

500 gig external hdd

one 80m out take green led fan at rear and no intake at front or underside or any other out takes, besides the psu, which has an inner 120mm intake.

I think i did ok, seeing as this is my first proper build and its running anything i throw at it with ease including crysis and gta4.

Haven't done any benches yet as i still think some of the temps could come down a bit, plus i haven't done any overclocking at all as i don't really think i need it to be honest.

If it can run gta4 then its not going to get much else thrown at it which can cause much of a problem, not to my tastes anyway.

Only things i would like now is obviously a new case, and hopefully one which cools the gpu too.
