NEED HELP!!!!!! Temps are rising!!

Hi there,

Just got them all connected and the manual is in double dutch, ive got the fans working and im just popping all the bay shutters through which i need and i turned it on and the fans spun and it appeared to be on but without the HDD and the GPU connected i will never know so ill just clip everything in which i can and ill let you know my results.

I think im going to have a problem with the led lights on the front though as they didnt come on, wehn i tried it without the HDD and others.

Like i said ill let you know.

If you have put the on/off / reset / hdd activity wires on correctly then you have done the difficult part mate.

you'll need to pop the two power leads back into the board, one to the left of the cpu socket, the other on the right hand edge near the middle. They are both keyed so you can not get them upside down.

your cd drive seems to be an IDE one so pop a ribbon cable from there to the IDE port on your board on the right that says IDE in very small print. The cable is keyed too and as a general rule the blue cable end goes into the motherboard and is often labelled too.

You will also need to pop a 4 pin molex into the cd drive to give it power.

Your HDD is Sata. pop a sata cable between your HDD and any SATA port on the board. You seem to be using a 4 pin molex to SATA power adapter so give the HDD some power.

If you still need the floppy drive it uses a cable very similar to an IDE cable though on the Floppy drive end the middle 4-ish wires are turned around. It will be obvious when you look at it. The floppy port on the board will be next to the IDE one and have floppy stamped next to it. The power for the floppy is a small (1cm) 4 pin plug.

Make sure your CPU cooler is plugged into the CPU Fan header, again it will be written next to it on the motherboard.

plug up your case fans to any Sys fan headers on the board or use a 4 pin molex to fan adapter.

Pop all you graphics and expansion cards in to the appropriate card slot. Attach any power supply that they need.

That should be about it. Try booting

Yup all done, i used the manual i had already downloaded for reference and i am amazed i didnt get it wrong but first time all the leads seem to be corresponding with each other and are all in the right place whhhooooo, the only problem im having is that ive attached a fan to the bottom of the case at the front and i know the airflow isnt going to get past the graphics card and the HDD as they almost meet in the middle, so im thinking of leaving it like that, and then removing a few bays and putting a mesh over them then attaching another fan to the top.

Going by the laws of physics in my head and how i estimate what the airflow will do, i think it will cool a lot better than it was before.

I just need something to cradle a fan which will be underneath the dvd drive.

Ive got a really chunky fan which im thinking of trying to fit and set it to slow just to apply a little more air into the case.

What do you think or do you think im going a bit doc brown????

I used to have a fan suspended in my 5.25 drive bays. I used elastic to hold it in position.

If you mount it at the very back of the drive bays, ie furthest from the case front, i would not replace the bay covers with mess. It will draw enough air to work.

Its suspended about half way back down the bay, i was going to get some tights and stretch them over the front with some sort of clips.

If you think it will draw enough air from outside of the case without having one of them missing then ill leave it at that.

Still havent tested the frontal usbs which i really do use a lot but i think it will work, im going to do a test with speedfan now, ill be about 10 mins.

Need to rig it all the cables and monitors back in.

Switched it on and some temps have actually gone up, dont know what im doing wrong to be honest, ive jammed the wires all behind the chassis so theres a good bit of space for airflow, one of the fans is a bit too loud for my likings so i might take it off, its the one at the bottom, the gpu has its own fan and i think it may be disrupting that so ill remove it and then ill upload all the speedfan results.

Ok ive removed the bottom fan now and its running nice and quiet (well bearable) I'm uploading some pics of speedfans results from changing the case and adding the fans to removing the noisy bottom one. this is what i got.

Any ideas on how to get these temps down??

I dont have Thermal paste nor do i need to clean it anymore.

I think besides the thermal paste its just a case of fan location and obstruction to the airflow.

This is speedfan after downloading a config for my mobo and after playing f.e.a.r. 2 on med settings. To be fair the temps have all come down except for the GPU which is still on 63%.

ok ive got my thermal paste, and some compressed air, i need to remove that bloody thing now.

So do i remove the cpu chip and put some thermal paste on that or not?? any advice please?

just take the heatsink off,clean off the gunk from the heatsink and the cpu,put a bb's worth in the middle of the cpu and Bob's your uncle as they say

Ok ive removed the heat sink and changed the thermal paste so its all done now.

My temps are a little lower, the CPU temp is now roughly 38 - 40 now gpu is 58 hard drive is amazingly 29 the case is 36 the motherboard is 30, all of this all on idle about 10 minutes after boot up and im only on the internet, i don't know what they will be on a heavy load but i'm guessing that they'll be better than they used to be.

Ive also added two new fans which look quite cool, theyre glowing blue and green from within and ive took two of the dvd bays out and put a 12cm fan in there with a square cut out of fishnet stockings in the hole (which looks really quite cool might i add).

I'm going to buy a new heatsink for the cpu as the one ive got now, i noticed a few indentations on it, and i thought that may be bad for it.

Anyway, I think im about done unless anyone can suggest anything to get even lower temps than ive got now??

I'm open to ideas.

Ok

The Blue and green fans are intake, the blue is at the top and the green at the bottom, both at the front.

I cleaned the whole thing after changing the case with compressed air so its dust free for the time being.

Cleaned all the old thermal paste off the cpu and heatsink with Akasa TIM.

Reseated the heatsink using akasa silver based thermal paste.

Cleaned all the cables up as much as possible.

Switched it on and it worked like a charm.

On idle the cpu temp is about 38 - 42.

On load the Cpu goes up to 48 - 50 (never any higher than 52)

Gpu goes up to about 75 - 80.

everything else just stays on the same temps maybe a couple of degrees more.

If i've missed something then let me know and ill report on it.

Looks pretty good! The CPU temperature looks also very good to me considering 52 grad under load... The GPU runs a bit hot (not sure that 80 grad are actually a good temp but I assume it depends on the card since some cards run hot anyway)

I will inform you about the temps in my computer as soon as the PSU arrives in order for you to make a comparison. The GPU I bought is an ASUS ENGTX-285 monster and will run in a HAF-932 case.

Try to take that IDE cable out of the way and see if you have the ability to install a silent fan on the floor of your case, to push air on your GPU. I just did that on my new HAF case. This should improve the GPU temps a bit.

The problem i've got is that I've got limited holes in my pc and i don't want to make any seeing that its new (ish, well never been used until now) i haven't got any holes on the floor of my case but buying fans or getting access to fans shouldn't be a problem.

I'm going to invest in a new case when i get paid next, I'm in the uk so i know my options are limited somewhat seeing what available in the U.S an for the prices they offer.

Either way, a new heatsink for the CPU and another go at trying to get that bloody ide cable out of the way and i should be in business, oh and something to blow on the GPU, which is a 8800GS by the way, 384MB, I love this card its never let me down (touch wood) it may be mid range but for the price i paid for it it does a fantastic job and i know the possibilities of overclocking are good ( something i havent ventured into yet, at least not until i get those temps down anyway)

K im off to work now so ill see about getting a fan to blow up and hopefully that'll work eh?

Do you mean just to circulate the air I'm already putting in or do oyu mean to actually have an intake from underneath the case??

Just getting this cooler for my cpu "Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler " £22.85 from amazon, not sure if its the best, i've seen some good reviews for it and I had a good feelin about it too.

I did a little overclocking you see and got my cpu speed up to 2.4 from 2.2ghz I didnt want to go up any further as the temps went up a little, not much but noticable, and only on the cpu.

So i'll have this in about two days now, can't wait to be honest.

I only hope it does what it says on the tin.

Another thing i wanted to ask is, what the hell can i do with that IDE cable cos its bugging me and i just cant get rid of the bugger ( please dont say chop it off), I think its the only thing disrupting the airflow and i would like it out of the path.

Anyway, ill let you know how things go when i get my new heatsink/cooler.

Just thought i'd post this speedfan shot, Is it just me or are those fan speeds really high for just idle??? seems like a lot.

Anyone know anything about fan speed or on how to change it?
