Ok, so I built my new rig...It has its up and down days but today it makes me want to cry. Here is the story..Got an X6800, p5n32-sli se delux, 2 gigs xms2 1066, 7950 gx2.
Originally when I installed my mach II on this board and cpu I used a ton of seal string which prevented the evap from contacting the CPU. Was not fun at the time but kind of helps now. The CPU temp in that "not right" configuration was about 4c to 8c at idle but went crazy fast higher under load.
After correcting the seal string issue and mounting it right this time (got a little too excited) It was running at -35c or so at idle and would never go below -30 under full load. Games Games Games and more Games...on problem. Today I was playing for a bit and shut her down. Came back 2 hours later...started her up and no problems.
All of the sudden the CPU temp went from -33c to 97c in literally 1 second and continued to rise from there. By the time I figured out why the PC probe warning horn was going off and shut down It was displaying 108c. I let it sit for 2 minutes and started it back up again only to be stopped during post for high cpu temp. showed +75c with prommy reading -55c. WTF!!!!!!! Now everytime I go immediatly to the bios it shows the right temp (-33 or so) and pc probe also shows the right temp but everytime a few minutes later it goes crazy high and and keeps rising.
Must be a bad temp sensor. Anyone else ever had this happen? What should I do? The only other thing that plays into all this is that I just got a logitech g15 gaming keyboard with the lcd. It only displays basic stuff so I downloaded a bunch of stuff after reading about how to make it display whatever I wanted it to.
So I had motherboard monitor 5 and speedfan and this and that...all having to do with monitoring CPU temp so I could export those readings to the lcd. Then this problem started. Is it possible for one of these programs to be the cause...maybe a virus or something??
ANy help greatly appreciated...Im going to try and get a screen shot of a graph so you guys can see what it looks like...it really is CRAZY!!!
