need help for optimizing my broadband connection

hello guys :)

well sadly for me iv been living for a while in jordan (middle east) and actuely its abit frustrating when it comes for internet

anyhow ! my ISP is called Batelco and my lease is made for 1 mega:rolleyes:

so im hoping i can get the most out of my internet . more bandwidth or speed and the most important is less pings :)

i saw a flash video one of the m8's posted for the socket in the box by removing some of the cable's but i dont know if that apply's to the middle east since it work's in the UK !

so is there anything that i can do ... propably overclocking my modem :p

in the UK there is a wire you can remove from the older phone sockets , its a bell wire which is no longer used , sometimes it can act as a kind of aerieal and make bad connections worse , i doubt it'll apply to you.

go here http://www.speedguide.net/sg_tools.php

try the tcp/ip analyzer it will check your setting and tell you what if anything can be changed to optimise your connection which you can do with the SG/TCP optimiser

they also have a good speed tester , if your stuck their forums are excellent.

If you have Vista in order to get the optimiser you work you have to first disable Vista's auto tuning you can do this by opening a command prompt and typing..

netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

To check that it is disabled

netsh interface tcp show global

To set back to the default Windows Vista setting

netsh interface tcp set global autotuningl=normal

However Vista's autotune does a very good job its unlikely the optimiser will help but its aorth a try

good luck :D

thanks for the help :)

i already know that website and their softwares :) triend them all and nothing new ! my MTU is stuck !! i would die to increase that to 1492 !

and also i saw those small cables , but thats the old way :) im connected directly through the phone line so those boxes are long gone for me :)

appreciate the help though :D

your MTU is stuck? do you have a router? did you know that you need to change it at your router before you can change it in windows , it'll be there in your router settings somewhere

or if you have Vista you need to disable auto tuning first as i described ubove

do a tracert to the game servers you play on see how many hops and where you connection goes before it reaches the server , you may be getting directed all over the place by your ISP

ps i mentioned the cable thing as thats more than likely the flash video you saw. ;)

hahaha , ya it was on that flash vid :) , as for Vista ! hell no man :) i hate it (for now  ) , and no i dont have a router , like i said earlier im connected directly :D

as for hope-outs i tested for that ! i tested on one server located in the USA and i had 9 hopes (2 from ISP servers ) , and i tested another on a server located in germany , it gave me 20 hopes (exceeded) , both are gaming servers :) , so what the hell im a supposed to with that ??

you need to take note of the time between hops (in m/s) and your overall ping but your gonna have a bad ping mate because your so far away from the servers your playing in. thats more than likely your only problem , nothing can fix that

are there any in the middle east you can test to?

thats what bugs me :) , well if u mean a server , ya i do :) my ISP has a server which i can test my pings on speedtest.net ! my pings were 84 , and the server is in my country , from were i see it ! it should be alot more better than this :) but u cant complain to those dumb companies :D ......
