Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed

I'll just assume you like arcade racing and not actual simulation then?

This game isn't a simulation by any sense of the word. It's designed to be accessible and ultimately a game that is 'easy' to pick up and play isn't a simulator. Fair enough you may say this game is hard, but it really isnt anything like driving a performance car fast.

It does look fun however, might give it a rent.

Apart from GT5 it's the closest thing you can really get at the moment. Personally I prefer more simulation than arcade driving, which tends to be very shrot lived.

if you guys cant see this is a simulator i am deeply concerned lol!

have you actually tried a gumpert apollo on experienced handling around the nurburgring.

the back ends bite really hard on these performance cars and keep you in check at every corner, you literally have to fight to get around every bend, just like a racing driving would in real life.

i dont advice keyboard, i really advise a wheel or an xbox pad because in experienced handling you have to keep your throttle in check and the steering is far to precise.

Actually experience the game before commenting please, it would be a masterpiece if they sorted the input lag and maybe polished a few textures up.

But at the end of the day, its a console port from EA which has actually caught my attention.

Exactly why I love this game! Really hard to drive the cars once they get a lot of power down, especially some cars which people would assume to be brilliant. A lot of settings and fine tuning needs to be changed/done before a car is driveable to your liking. It's very in depth.

When people talk about racing sims, I think GTR2 not NFS lol. However I'll reserve judgement until I play the game.

Just out of interest I loaded up shift 1 and copied my settings from that, then went into shift 2 and used those settings, got a Audi TT and set it up the same as I used for the shift 1 lap of the ring challenge a few of us had last year. Now its been a while but for some reason I could not get anywhere near my shift 1 time, the closest I got was 20.3 seconds slower.

Then I took my modded RS4 for a lap and that was only 15 secs quicker than my stock RS4 in shift 1.

So what have they changed?

But the fact the cars are 'hard' to drive, doesn't make it simulation, thats what i am getting at. I'm not bashing the game, it might be real good fun and to be honest it looks it, but it isn't a simulation. I plan on buying it and ill update then, but from what i've seen it just looks like a harder to control grid (which was a fun game to smash cars up on

)

Hmm... I wouldn't go calling Shift (2) a "simulation racer", but on "arcade-simulation" level to squeeze up to the likes of GT5 and anything Codemasters releases. I mean, come on, honestly... look at the above video with the Pagani, the drivetrain should have exploded when you fishtailed the car into that tire wall on the straight.

For simulation racer, rFactor or Live For Speed pops up in my mind. Superior physics engine even if the graphics are not next gen stuff.

I'll concede that point, but as a balance it is very good. It doesn't have the handling characteristics of GT5, nor the physics of rFactor, but a good balance is struck.

And Nepas, I'm not entirely sure, I will have to try out and see what sort of time I can do, then dredge up the old google docs file with our times on and compare. I think the braking is more realistic than the last game, as distances vary a lot more between cars this time.

so for some one who like the first shift but love underground stle more.........................................give this a miss

Well I think that the brakes are EPIC compared to last time tbh. After I upgraded the brakes I was losing places left right and center,as I was braking too early,I think the whole braking system has been updated this time.

Very much so! Good brakes can gain you massive amounts of time, as I just found out doing some online racing! Playing on Spa with quite a lot of drivers, using a Gallardo (works) and having a great yet annoying race with a guy in a works veyron. He was quicker in a line but had to brake earlier, and I could easily overtake when I got close enough, and on the turns he was slower too, but kept cheating with shortcuts and ramming me off to win.

I got the last laugh though, I beat him by a country mile when they changed it to a night race XD

Was also the first time I lapped people online, and it was only a 5 lap race!

tried to search for you but no luck, what is your in game name?

Been playing it for some hours now. Game feels and looks great. But there seems to be some sort of input lag which is driving me crazy, it also makes drifting annoyingly impossible.

Great game though, just wish company's will stop rushing the console porting.

This, plus the AI is freaking horrible and whenever you touch them you spin out..

I've been playing PC games since the 90s and had a wheel back then. You have to be at least slightly retarded or a poor student to play racing games with a keyboard.

I have a Logitech wheel, but I mostly use the PS3 controller with MotionJoy.

The lag is on the consoles, as well. I purchased three pieces of shit today and already returned one.

Gonna return the other tomorrow but I can't return the third (Shift 2)... I really hope they fix this barely playable piece of shit.

So am I the only one that can easily play with this so called lag? I don't see how there is lag. If you mean that when I move the joystick and something doesn't happen instantly, this will be because of the new physics engine, which is much better than the last.

Don't forget, when driving a car, the response isn't instant, there is always a tiny bit of lag as to when the car reacts after the forces have set in. Larger movement motions will unsettle the car and make it worse to drive.

This game lacks a linearity setting. Use cockpit view for once and look at the driver's hands.

The above is true for me when I play it on PC. Go to EA forums. If you never use cockpit view, you'll never know why the steering in this game is shit.

In this game, the wheel in the game is disconnected from the gamepad or your wheel. Imagine having two wheels in your car one strapped to the other with rubber bands. And you don't get to control the real wheel.

Here's the only truthful review I've found:

Shift was the same when that launched as well. Its also a problem that can be fixed easy yourself, just have a look at the racing forums they are already some mods on fixing it(same as Shift).TBH why the hell are you looking at the steering wheel and arms anyway, shouldn't you be looking at the track?

I know that having to use 3rd party mods and community solutions is not ideal, but its better than nothing(and nowadays seems to be the norm unfortunately)

As for that "REVIEW" Don't make me laugh,he does not even know how to setup the controls! and most of it is just a rant against Logitech about them pulling their wheels from the Indian market.

Expert Review

Although what you're reading right now does not constitute a review

So which is it then?

Well, if you can set the linearity so that the wheel is 1-1 in game with my wheel, can you point me to the patch, xml edit? I turned off damping in the xml files and the control is still not 1-1. Thanks. Until then, your post is nothing but religious apologetics.
