Need camera

Right I need a nice new camera for a special occasion that is coming up, and I was wondering whether someone can give me a good camera?

I am wanting to spend max of £230 on a camera that must have these features:

Still shots 10mp+

HD 720 recording +

Takes memory card

I've seen the Samsung WB500 which Zak recommended and it is a great camera without a doubt, I was wondering whether there is a camera that is better in my price range?

Thank you!!!

No probs. I've played with a few Panasonic Lumix's and I've been impressed, for a compact ;)

May be worth looking at the Ricoh Caplio R7 too. I had the R5 and it was as close as I've seen to a DSLR without actually being one.

EDIT: Review Here . They also mention another Panasonic Lumix too, may also be worth checking out. Deffo read a lot about the camera though and Jessops are always good for looking at the camera's in the flash before buying.

I'm stuck between 3 camera lol, which would you suggest getting Kempez? Personally.

1. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX65

2. Ricoh Caplio R7

3. Canon Powershot SX200 IS

Thank you!!

Hmm well I think it's between the Lumix and the Ricoh for me. I couldn't say which way you should go as I've not played specifically with either actual model but I can speak for both brands in terms of good quality. I would perhaps go with the Caplio having owned one, but the Pana has some nice specs so it's tough. I think maybe the Panasonic edges it?

I wouldn't count on either taking fantastic video though. sure it will be usable, but it won't be good quality like a dedicated Digicam.

Okay cool:), Pana it is?:D

Get it at Jessops and then you can exchange if you're not happy? Also, the folks in my local Jessops are very keen photographers and extremely helpful too, so going in and asking them about the camera's isn't going to hurt you either.

I would check if any of the cameras support MPEG4 encoding. The Canon can only do MJPEG which is wasteful of the memory card space but offers near perfect quality, and will have a 30min time limit per movie clip.

Concerning actual stills quality, the Canon is leaps ahead of the other two choices. After you get over the movie function, which is great, you can discover photography and how many things this fairly compact Canon can do.

I would get the SX200IS.

Well after looking at the three Kempez had mentioned, I would go with the Panasonic. :)

Edit: Just noticed that there is a second page of this thread. :p

My dads got an older lumix, which I wasn't too impressed with...

He ordered one of the newer ones because of the HD video though, which should be here in a few days. Ill let you know what i think when it arrives if you want?

That would be really helpful :), thank you.

I have just bought a Lumix Tz65 and can thoroughly recommend them! Picture quality is awesome, really wide lens (25mm I think) and the auto mode really is excellent in all light conditions. Night shots are great, no blurry photos at all!

So I would recommend the Lumix Tz7 for your budget with the 720p requirement. :)

Seem alot better value than the FX series as you get the 12x optical zoom!

Camerabox are doing them for £214 So plenty left over for a nice big SD card and hardcase!
