Hello, as you can probably tell if you look at my specs I am in need of a new CPU for my rig as it is not currently good for the long gaming sessions. I am open to everything (except another i3). Also I'm think of going SFF.

I was looking at the Phenom II x4 965 which is (at time of writing) : £70ish pounds. Although these are seen as excellent I'm a bit worried that they are now getting on a bit.

So guys, what do?

Normally I'd agree but the main issue is that in my haste to buy myself a computer for school work I mistakenly bought myself a new dell inspiron around a 2 years ago. This is what my current rig is based off and well as it's a dell it comes with this awful motherboard that has no real future-proofing( I knew next to nothing when I bought it). Oh I will be getting another motherboard regardless.

Also I've seen some AMD processors (such as the 8150) drop into my price range but I'm aware of the flaws assoiciated with it :(

Maybe get a nice new Z77 board like an MSI Z77A G45, then get a cheap i3 and then in the future upgrade to a 3570k? Or you could wait for Haswell?

Have you tried looking for an old i5-750 or something along those lines? Since you have a 1156 motherboard that seems to be the easiest option.

A Phenom X4 is a very capable gaming chip for any single card setup but if you're gonna buy a new motherboard I'd rather get a i3-2120 which is a monster little chip and light years ahead of your old i3. Get a 1155 board, i3 and you'll have a very good rig and you can drop in a 3570K later when you have more cash if you want.
