Need a cool for Quad.

Hi all

I'm making a new PC and have decided to go with a Quad; (Probably Q6700) Unless it's terrible and there's something better?

I have a feeling it's going to get hot understock so i'm looking for an aftermarket cooler.

Any ideas?

Budget £20ish. ;Any good?

I might suggest the OCZ Vendetta II, but you may wish to stretch to a TRUE or similar

also see if you can get something rather than the q6700.... ideally from the Q9xx series as they are def better....

The Q9's are a little expensive would a Q8400 be better than a Q6700.

They ar not bad, but the q9xx chips go for around 130-150 on ebay sometimes..if you are patient you can def pick one up for cheap

Well the Q8400 is 45nm but is gimped and has less cache etc, and they don't clock very well.

The Q6700 is 65nm but has a 10x multi so with 400FSB = 4Ghz, and it is a great chip.

Q8400:2.66ghz, 45nm, L2cache 4mb,multi x8

tough choice,similar chips,the 84 is a 45nm chip so it will run cooler,BUT the 67 has double the L2 cache and a 10 multi.

It really depends on the rest of your system.....what are the complete specs of your rig inc fans, hard drives etc?

A typical gaming rig requires around the 600w mark.... again need to know the other parts to give a definitive answer

Floppy; Yes.

RAM: 4gb corsair

HDD: 500gb Hitachi

Then the usual, card reader, PCI cards etc.

Yep than 600w-650w should be perfectly good.... It is best to go with a solid and trusted name...

something along the lines of:

Enermax Pro82+ 625W

Coolermaster RealPower 700W

CoolerMaster 600W Silent Pro Modular PSU

If you have a lower budget than the OCZ Stealth is OK, or you can get a second hand PSU.....
