N00b Questions

Just a few questions on water cooling.

1. Can the radiator be any way round like upside down or on its side?

2. When your filling ur loop with coolant do you have the pump on whilst doing it or fill it up whilst the pump is off?

3. If I use a coolant like fesar what is the time period before you have to change the fluid?

Last but no least, ive seen people with one tube with green coolant and a other tube with pink coolant, how does this work?

1. Yep pretty much. Different orientations can have an effect on flow rates, but if you've got a decent pump it should be ok regardless.

2. There should always be fluid passing through the pump or it may get damaged. Fill your reservoir to the top and make sure the water gets into the pump. Then run the pump until the water in the res is almost gone. Fill back up, and go again.

3. I've seen people leave Feser-like coolant in their system for over a year. Personally I'd change every 6-9 months.

If you was to have a leak and you have this non conductive coolant are you 100% safe?

And how would you go about draining your system upon a upgrade?

For the two different colours, they would have two different loops.

You are basically 100% safe with non-conductive fluid. I haven't heard any cases of dead components yet. If you do get a leak, make sure you clean it up throughly, or it will begin to smell.

could someone show me a diagram on how a normal loop plugs in together

GPU BLOCK > RAD > RES > PUMP > CPU BLOCK > GPU BLOCK thats an example BTW!! lol

Rad > CPU > NB > SB > GPU > Res > Pump > Rad

That is what I have without the SB and the GPU. You need the CPU straight after the Rad, as that is where the liquid is cooled down.

Yes.. Out of the rad and into the CPU block.

I've heard of a number die, You need to clean it off quickly, or it starts to become conductive, more than 24hrs and you'll start to kill your system I believe.

i have a noob question too, for those guys with bay resevoirs, how do you fill up cos i find that extra tubing (to allow me to slide it out) causes the tubing to bend and puts extra pressure on the pump as it bends near the intake.

ive got a d5 and my case is pretty small too- p180

if you can see on the diagram, the pipes have arrows in them, the ones going in to the part are the intake the ones going out or heading away from the part is the out

barbs are the little metal things that screw into ur blocks etc? if so do u need barbs for ur rad, res pump too? and do u just clip the tubing with a jubilee clip?

You do indeed need barbs for your res and rad and most pumps.

You can use jubilee clips or even cable ties. Alternatively you can use compression fittings / barbs which don't require clamps.

Junilee clips etc are used for safety purposes. as the piping is usual tight around the barb but with so much pressure going through eventually this could give way and the wipe will leak every where so jubilee clips just tighten the pipe around the barb

oh thats what I ment and are they standard barbs for a tube fitting or do u have to get certain ones like pump barbs and res barbs?

They are just standard barbs, you don'tneeds special barbs for the res, cpu block etc.

Note that the barbs must be the correct size for your pipes!
