hi i am in the middle of upgrading a pc i know my q9300 works and my 2 9800gtx graphics cards work fine as i have them plugged into my 780i motherboard but i tried getting it to load but it doesn't work( doesn't load on screen no bios!!)

I AM NOT SURE IF ITS THE MEMORY OR MOTHERBOARD OR THIS!!!:

i didn't have enough brass standoffs and screws to fill all the holes of the motherboard i have about 6 screws and standoffs

but....

my 780i motherboard works with 6 screws fitted to the board do you think this this could stop my 790i ultra board from booting???

also worth mentionin i have a thermaltake tough power 1200w psu

also led diagnostic gets stuck at error code 26

if it does't boot soon i will be giving it the boot!! :D

also my specs:

2 9800gtx (both fully workin and tested)

q9300@stock

2x2gb xms3 1333mhz

1200w toughpower

1tb spinpoint hdd

xfx790i ultra mothergboard

Reset CMOS if you haven't already done it and I'm presuming the motherboard is running with the shipping BIOS.

So you're sure about CPU and gfx cards? I'd be checking the memory then personally, is this it??. Have you tried booting with one stick of RAM/different DIMM slot/using another brand of memory/trying in another computer. From what I've seen error 26 is related to memory timings and/or voltage.

I'd try the memory in another computer before considering an RMA of either the motherboard or RAM

I had a simlar problem with a 780i board posting with code FF, but the board was dead. try the above or RMA it, hate to tell ya but the 780i boards are a little touch and go with things like this.

According to XFX code 26 is to do with the motherboard clock (FSB) setting.

According to every link I've found in google its an RMA job but hey I'm sure you know that after all a responsible member would do their research before posting a thread.

Ditto this.

Get the mobo down to the basic requirements, test it, and if successful and more stuff - testing as u go.

If it don't work with minimal stuff in it, either all the power connectors aren't plugged in or it's an rma.

The strikers sometimes do this. If it still won't play ball after a CMOS reset, kill the power, disconnect the power lead (or turn the PSU off to keep earth), remove the CMOS battery and leave for at least an hour. This can also cure bad flashes.

Then reverse the procedure, cross anything that can be crossed and try and boot.

Try a different GPU, or connect the monitor to the GPU using a VGA adapter (15 pin DSUB not a DVI).

Try using only one stick of RAM. Try a different processor. Check the motherboard tray for possible shorts.

hi guys i wrote this post while i was waitin for my antec 1200 to come in the post (am upgrading from antec 900)

I now have it setup in antec 1200 with 1 x 2gb stick memory my q9300 which i know works 1 9800gtx

if i can explain a bit more

all motherboard screws are now in really tightly connect power supply back up no hard drive or dvd drive connected

problem is i am not even getting any power to case fans or motherboard or power supply

since i put it in 1200 just an hour ago

when i had this connected in my antec 900 the first time i put both memory sticks and to graphic cards

it did get stuck once or twice at codes ff then 80 which i found is a reserved code??

then i tried 1 stick with 1 gpu which gave me code 26 but as i said i am not gettin any power at all now everything is connected right?? the only glimpse of power in the whole pc is the standby blue led on the motheboard??

FF is the main code you should see when the board is/has booted your OS.

26 is the code you will see when your motherboard is searching for your OS to load from either HD or CD. Such as when the last boot was interupted and the 30 second boot options menu is counting down.

Have you tried turning the motherboard on using the onboard switch rather than your case switch?

Take the parts out and just rest them on an anti-static bag on the motherboard box. Make sure all the components are working out of the case before installing.

It might be worth picking up the cheapest DDR3 stick you can find and testing with that too, as it will help tell you if its the motherboard, ram or just compatibility faults. 'Performance' memory often needs a little more voltage than the board provides at stock, Casuing these errors.

If the board boots with the cheap stick you can you just go into the bios, adjust the ram timming and voltage and try with the good stick again.

Did you connect your monitor with a DSUB (the blue VGA plug) through an adaptor. If this is anything like a problem I've seen with S2Es and Nvidia cards, the LCD poster would say "errormsg" or the time indicating a succesful boot but not showing anything on the screen.

I had a similar problem, for some reason the PSU was killing my motherboards, it just would not boot, nothing really happened save for a few lights hinting at power. Do the usual, just plug in the power to the motherboard, nothing else and see how far that POST gets you, then add a CPU etc, the board should let you know there is no RAM but if it does not even do that, might be a dead motherboard. Sounds like RMA time mate

(just wanted to jump in and mention u dont need to screw in the post screws really-tight, just until u get a bit of resistance)

If u do them tight, after a while when u might want to take them out, they might unscrew the posts also.

hey webbo if you had replied to your post i might of bought you evga board instead!!

you are the man i tried the power button on the motherboard and then it powers the fans up but still nothing on my screen?? and it is getting stuck now on error code 7F

led's up the top are all lit tho?? the board says that there is power going to the memory??

thought its worth mentionin I have not plugged hdd or dvd in so that i am not usin so much power just testin with waht i need to have also thought it is worth mentionin that my fans are spinnin on psu gpu and cpu no case fans plugged in

hehe I didn't mean to hijack, it's just I recently had to exhume a mobo that had 1 screw married right into the post and it was a pita to get out.
