My recontamination for headset.

So as some of you saw, I was thoroughly disappointed with my Tritton AX Pros. The main reason I got them was because it was compatible with my PS3 as well as my PC. One problem right out of the box, were their were WAY to many wires, small pieces, large power cable etc, making things really complicated and cumbersome. Installation was a hassle as well, having to thoroughly read instructions just to use headphones just ins't supposed to be. Also with wires hanging off of you left and right as well as more wires to your right or left (depending on were your computer is) just makes a mess and can make it difficult not to trip over a wire or reposition yourself.

I managed to get both Optical and Analogue ports working with this headset (both on PC and optical on PS3) and the sound quality was just terrible for a $169.99 pair of headphones. It was terrible for $50.00 headphones! Besides the very noticeable HISS when their is nothing happening (everything was plugged in correctly and working perfectly) their was VERY weak bass. You know that sound when you put your head up to a cheap little sub, that dead air moving through the exit of the tube? yea that is what it sounded like at anything below 50hz.. My logitech G35s were able to hit 20hz no problem and as low as 10hz.

Another complete disappointment was the thought that I would get more precise sound with 4 drivers in each ear piece. BOY WAS I WRONG. At first I thought maybe my ears just cant hear it, so I tested them with my Logitech G35s 7.1 headphones because they are simulated surround. I heard no differences in all the surround tests I had. So I had my brother, two friends, sister, sisters friend, father, mother, and uncle there to see if they could hear the difference in which one was more precise. The results were "I am not losing my hearing" neither of them could hear a difference in 5.1 surround tests, in fact my brother and sister both thought the logitech was clearer on the precision. I can clearly hear all 7 channels in my G35. (I used the HALO 2 surround test as one of the tests

Some ups with the Tritton was that it was VERY comfortable, had a great detachable mic, and could individually control the volume of each sound point. But that is not enough to makeup the $181.88 (after tax) price tag. So I brought them back and traded them for the Tritton AX 720 which is simulated 5.1 and were only $129.99. I brought them home and the first thing I noticed is that they were very easy to set up, they fit just like the Pro, the mic was great and removable, and all 5 channels were as clear as day and sounded 100% identical to the AX Pro ones with no hissing. So I was eager to keep these because they were NEAR perfect. As soon as I ran a BASS test, as well as a game (Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising) the terrible bass came up again, just sounded like dead air moving through a tube. So I was about to cry

I took the AX 720 back to Best Buy again and picked up my final option that I already new would work 100%, unfortunately not for the PS3. the Logitech G930s the new brother from the G35. Let me go through the bads of this headset: No detachable mic and not as comfortable as the Trittons. Thats pretty much it.

Everything else about the G930s is PERFECT! All 7 points of sound are clearly heard, I can drop the bass to 20hz no problem, I can even adjust the sound of all 7 sound points (EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SIMULATED) including the SUB. The ear pieces can be turned 90 degrees so the headphones can rest on your shoulders, 3 programmable "G" keys, volume and mic control no the left ear cup. And the list goes on. But the best part is that it is wireless! Now i know what you are thinking, I had the same thoughts. You want to know if their is going to mic/sound interference and battery life issues. All I have to say is none of those are an issue. The G930s have a 40 foot connection, does not use radio waves, and has a HUGE battery, Fully charged has 10 hours of gameplay! And had 0 connection issues, no sound cuts and no mic cuts.

These headphones are essentially perfect, no cords, hot keys, 7.1, no hiss, cost just as much as the Tritton AX 720, and simple as pie driver.

Don't get sucked into the 8 driver crap. Headphones are in such a contained space you WILL NOT hear a difference. I highly recommend these to anyone, even if you get the older G35s you will not be disappointed!

Rating:

Tritton AX PRO:

Value for the price: 2/10 - The cost to much and offer so little in terms of sound quality.

Designed: 4/10 - They didn't really think through the cable situation, and requires 2 power connections, as well as a junction box.

Usefulness: 8/10 - Multi plat and It's surround sound and is very useful but poor bass will make your headphones sound like blah if a grenade goes off.

Comfort: 7/10 - Very comfortable around the ears, but all the cables will make you lose your sanity, and a constant fear you will trip over them doing some sort of damage.

Overall: 4/10

Tritton AX 720:

Value for the price: 6/10 - Good cost but doesn't offer enough in terms of sound quality.

Designed: 5/10 - Still a bit of wiring (not as much as the pros) and a junction box which can get in the way.

Usefulness: 8/10 - Multi plat and It's surround sound and is very useful but poor bass will make your headphones sound like blah if a grenade goes off.

Comfort: 8/10 - Very comfortable around the ears and a tad bit of cable madness.

Overall: 6/10

Logitech G930

Value for the Price: 8/10 - No console connectivity.

Designed: 9/10 - Very ergonomical, just a little flash size dongle for wireless, but no removable mic.

Usefulness: 5/10 - only works on PC

Comfort: 6/10 - Squeezes you head a little more than the Tritton and takes some getting used too.

Overall: 8/10

Read the title and was like: " What the..."

Nice read mate, you could have tried the Sennheiser PC 350/360 G4me though, as it is (probably) compatible with any console or pc (2 3,5mm jacks) and sound great!

I myself have the G35's and am very satisfied.

I did not see any Sennheiser at Best But but i do know they make great quality stuff. When I purchase video/audio equipment I NEVER buy online. If they had them at Best Buy and they are 5.1/7.1 I would be more than willing to give them a try.

hey, can you recommend a 60 dollar budget headset with a removable or retractable mic? so far i am interested in the creative fatal1ty mkII, so far i read good reviews on them and wanted to hear your take.

i have never used it. but if it has all good review around the board then give it a try. what i usually do to see if their is a any issues with a headset, or any device for that matter i put in a common headset problem then the name of the headset to see if its a common problem.

EX: hissing mkII

EX2: breaking MKII
