My Phantom-First Water Cooled Project

Ok guys thought i'd share my build log with you as a i put bits in.

Still waiting on rad and pump to arrive at the moment, but made a start with the res and cable braiding.

That's the reservoir mounted, and now onto the cable braiding.

I have chosen a nice deep blue to go with the theme, the board and all components are being upgraded over the next month or 2,so will update this log with details of that as and when.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out. What hardware specs and water cooling gear will you be using?

For now i'm gonna be using a 140mm rad,with a laing d5 pump,and an ek water block.

I'm only cooling the cpu so hopefully a 140mm rad will be sufficient.

The tubing i have is white, and i'm unsure of the fittings yet,as i've not seen any i like,i might just buy some and spray the external parts.

Hardware wise,i'm easy going, but i wanna wait a month and see what am3+ offerings are available,if not i have my eye on the gigabyte x58 OC,or a p8p67 pro with 2500, i think either will match the colour scheme.

Graphics wise i'll be going with a gtx 570,as tom says this will fit if i can gain half inch by moving res to the right.

Which will primarily be used for gaming and folding@home.

Memory will be upgraded from silverline to ballistix tracer blues,8 gig in total, and have better memory timings then my current memory.

Edited Final System:

K so now i have set a definite sytem,which will be a gigabyte UD5,and a 2500k cpu,along with 8gig of ballistix tracers(bue).

Card wise i'm sticking with the 570.

I did some more work on the cabling, and tucked it in nice and neat:

I'd usually tuck in behind motherboard tray, but i like the braiding that much i had to have a bit on show.

Cable ties are temporary, and will be replaced with something a little nicer looking

braiding by specialtech, first time i've used and i fell in love with it straight away.

It has a really tight weave, and the qualities just amazing.I've used a few different braids in the past but in all fairness they've been a bit cheap looking with cables showing through and all sorts.

I'm actually thinking of changing the colour of my NZXT Hale braiding to white,or maybe even the same colour, rather than black, but i'm gonna see what everything looks like before doing so.

Don't want overkill on this rig.

yes,but i do like the 200mm fans in the roof,as they look nice from the outside of the case, and when i add another that;ll be blowing cold air down onto the cooling reservoir, which will in effect give it an added boost in performance i hope, although marginal.

my temps rose then i had the 2nd roof fan as an intake, by about 2-3C infact - much better as an exhaust for airflow purposes (warm air rises so itll reach the top then get blown down again to get even hotter etc)

I was actually thinking of doing the same,so that the logo's match on the fans, but i'd really like to get some extra cooling on that res,as i'll only be using a 140mm radiator.

If i can somehow get a 200mm fan in the front,or even a 180, i'll probably go with your idea.

i could even mount the rad in the drive bays, with the air from rad fans cooling it i guess.

K quick update:

Watercooling bits arriving tommorow from specialtech which are revised as the first d5 i bought cause problems with where i wanted it positioned:

EK Supreme HF CPU Waterblock Intel 1366, 1156, 1155, 775, AMD AM3, AM2+, AM2 : Nickel Plexi #12145

Laing DDC-1+ Ultra Pump 600 L/hr 18W (MCP355) : DDC-1+ T #3179

De-ionised Water 1 Litre - Ideal for watercooling #2272

EK PSC 1/4" Thread Compression Fitting for 3/8" ID - 1/2" OD Tubing : Black #12169

Lamptron Elite Aluminium Tubing Clamp for 3/4" (19mm) OD Tubing : Black #13495

Hopefully this should do the job?,i was a bit sceptical of the rad being to small, but as the reservoir is a coolling res, hopefully it should balance things out a bit.

and a new hd webcam,so i can take some better pics
