my pc not powering on

hi guys i am new to these forums and i have joined these forums recently because it seems preety good and i like tiny tom logan's youtube channel

but any way i have a problem with my rig it isn't powering on properly i presss the power botton and all that happens is the fans start spining up and nothing, i think that the board or the psu could be broken as it isn't recieving enough power i don't think as none of the fan headers work but when i turn off the pump and then power on the cpu does get hot so what is wrong my cpu and mobo is water cooled and i have recently installed the mobo water blocks so can you guys help find the source of the problem?

i think it is either the mobo or psu or cpu i have checked the ram, hdd, and gpu can't check anything else

thanks morgan

P.S if you thinck i have put this thread in the wrong part of the forum please tell me and i will move it

So clarify this for me. When you press the pwr button on your case it only starts the fans? are the fans running at full speed or do they start rotating then stop? It could be a short somewhere in your case causing a malfunction but usually when this happens the pc will start and instantly stop. Make sure the cpu is seated correctly, and maybe get a psu tester to make sure all the correct voltages are being distributed correctly.

i press the power button and it turns on and all the fans start spining and the lights on the mobo come on (more than usual) and i have a fan controller which all my fans are conected but i tried the fan conectors on the board and none of them work

Reset your cmos.

i have reset the cmos a million times please don't treat me like a noob i am water cooling after all

Everything is a possibility when it comes to hardware. This problem happened to me when there was a shortening in my case, I removed it from my case and it worked. I had bent the solder on the bottom of the board and it was touching another piece of solder.

i will try to remove my board and look behind it not going to easy as i am water cooling but i will see what i can do

i think i will have buy a new sytem any ways i wasa thinking i5 750 gigabyte ud2 4gb corsair 1600mhz ram or something

thanks for helping

I don't think I've seen many Q6600's at 3.8 GHz. I only thought thet ran up to around 3.4 -3.5. Turn the clock down if you can. An overclock that big could destroy the CPU.

Mines at 3.4, I did get it to 3.6 though! 3.8 was a no no, might try bump it up in a bit actually :D.

Apparently there was some nice low vid 6600 about.

no it runs fine as i am watercooling i don't get temps higher than 60 degrees and most q6600 run up to 3.6 really quite easily but i was lucky i could push it that bit extra

Post some pics up man:), you're very lucky, what is the vid @?

i haver the cpu mosfets nb and sb water cooled

and i can't turn down the ghz down atm as my pc dosen't work if you renember

and i had the vid at 1.525 i think something like that

q6600's @ that speed on water and that vid isnt good at all for long session. Unless you running some sort of 3 x 120mm rad and you are so lucky that it working ..... how ever i don still run at 3.8 Ghz my self

How ever ... Check you block on the cpu you may have over tighted it. release all the Spring bolts and then only tighten so there its just putting pressure on the block on the cpu. do this start her up. see how it goes. if it works then you know the answer.

If it still doesnt work take off the block. clean it re apply tim, seat the block back on and again just do the bolts so they are only applying light pressure. If it still a no go then look arround the bord and see if any of the cap's have popped .... This is were the look either slighly bulged or look like there leeking fluid.

Take pics of the mb and les see if we can spot any problems on there.

Yeh and reset you bios. and yes you can weather you boot in or not as all you do is reset your bios via the jumper unelss its one of the botched gigabyes.

and yes you can over clock to over 4 ghz on a q6600 -> http://forum.overclock3d.net/showthread.php?8185-[hwbot]-Super-Pi-1M&p=337201&viewfull=1#post337201 Under phase i had it to 4.8 Ghz at one point before i blew the bord.

Just be warned how ever your burn out you chip quicly at 3.8 ghz just on water 3.6 is much better for it.

thanks for trying to help guys but my board has deffinetly give up which is why i am going to buy a new system soon

i5 750

evga p55 sli

G.skill 4gb 1600mhz

Bet you've blown a cap mate a photo speaks a million words.

If its just a cap it can be fixed. save you buying a new system mate !!!!
