Hey crorush, welcome to OC3D :)!

Just a few questions:

1) What are you using your build for?

2) What's your budget?

3) What sized monitor are you using?

IMO, motherboard I'd recommend getting the MSI Neo2-FR; great board for overclocking if you're into trying that out in the near/late future.

Power supply (or for short PSU) you could look for a good case/PSU combo - that is depending on your budget - but I'd look at decent brands such as Coolermaser, Antec, Corsair, etc. :)

Also, if you're going for a windows based OS (opperating system ;)), make sure you get a 64bit one so you can utilise all 4GB of RAM. IMO I'd even settle for some CL4 PC2-6400 sticks!

Hope this helps dude!

hi, daniSAUR, thank you for your help!

I get this build for gaming, mmorpgs,or single game like cod, just want to try every great game i havent played before, my budget is around £700 exclude monitor, planing to buy a cheap 22" monitor, does 4870x2 work well with E8400 otherwise i will choose xfx gtx275 or 260. is 4890 better than 275, i found its only for £145 at scan.

GPUs work with any CPU chips. Seeing as you're a gamer your main focuses should be on a good CPU and GPU. :)

I just looked at some benchies on the two cards (HD 4890 and GTX275) and the nVidia card seems to out perform the ATi one by only a small amount. If you're going to be playing new games - for example those made by Crytek - then getting a nVidia card would give you higher FPS (frames per second) during gameplay. I believe they run a bit cooler than the ATi cards as well (someone correct me if I'm wrong :D). The HD 4890 only seems to beat the GTX275 when in CrossFire, so if you get two HD 4890's you'd be rocking out on the games! :rocker: :rocker:

A 512mb GPU should be fine to have, 1GB may be a little pointless with the screen size.

First off the hd4890 is more or less on a par with the gtx275 and in crossfire it would blow a single gtx275 out if the water but as single cards they are about the same when you factor in cost etc.

If you are looking for a psu then make sure it has enough amps on the 12v rail(s), i would personally go for the corsair 650tx series as it has a mighty 50+ amps on a single 12v rail, if on the other hand you want to set up two cards in xfire/sli then you might need a bigger supply!

As regards to the motherboard, i have a p5qe mobo and can tell you that it has fantastic overclocking abilities so i would assume the p5q pro would have just the same potential, remember also that if you decide on a ati gpu or nvidia gpu and plan on running xfire/sli in the future then make sure your mobo can do this.

Hope this helps.

just checked out overclocker`s and they have the hd4890 @ £145. and the cheapest gtx275 @ £175., personally as you are getting the p5q pro mobo, i would go for the 4890 based on the fact that you can x-fire with this mobo only.

Remember that when in x-fire this mobo will only run at 8x and not at 16x, so perhaps will induce a slight bottleneck on the cards, dont think this will be too much of a visible issue though.

If you thought about it, you could go the i7 route as i am sure that a £700.00 budget would allow for this and also the p45 mobo will at some point become yesterdays tech.
