Hey people, I am looking into building a new up-to-date rig with the latest i7 3770K processor at the heart of it. It is going to be left on folding 24/7 when I am at work, and also when I am not gaming on it and I want to be able to contribute to our team with a high PPD rate and also low power consumption. Now I know that usually top of the range computer use quite a bit of electricity, and especially when left on 24/7. My current set-up is in my signature section, but I have recently purchased 2 new items towards building my new rig.
The spec I am looking at when complete is:
Fractal Design Arc Midi
5x Noctua NF-F12
i7 3770k
Noctua NH-D14
GA-Z68X-UD5
8GB Mushkin Blackline 1600Mhz (maybe 1866Mhz if I can find any)
MSI Radeon 7850 TwinFrozr III
Corsair AX650w 80+
Corsair Force 3 SSD 60GB (Boot Drive)
WD 1TB Green Caviar (Storage)
Both packages arrived today in the form of a Noctua NH-D14 and a Gigabyte Z68X-UD5 motherboard complete with 20 phase vrm power design. Now, taking note that I am only going to be folding on the CPU (aka SMP) and not the GPU (too power hungry for my liking), to keep the power usage low, and I know that Ivybridge cpus don't use a great deal of power. My next 2 purchases will be the 3770K and a 7850 as it too has lower power usage (with only needing 1 PCI-E 6pin cable). I am currently using an OCZ ZX 850w PSU, which I know is complete overkill, but this will be changing to a Corsair AX series PSU. I am looking at the AX650w PSU, as I have always had a good experience with Corsair, and will also be buying the aftermarket cables to go with it. Not sure on what colour, any hints?
I am sorry if all this seems to some as one big ramble, but I just want to contribute to Folding@Home as much as possible, but without making too big an impact on my electricity bill. I have lost people I held dear to me to Alzheimers and cancer, and just want to help out as much as possible.
