Hi guys

Im having a go at completing my first overclock on my rig. Im having a crack because of toms video on how to overcock the z77 platform. My question is it normal for OCCT to have cpu dips every 8 mins or so? leading up to this time CPU is pegged at 99.3-100% then dips and returnes. Im watching my voltage and not seeing any different numbers. Is this normal?

My rig specs are as follows.

CPU - 2500k
Voltage - 1.150v
Core clock - 42 multi
Cooler - Corsair H80 push/pull exhaust rear of case
Mobo - Asrock z77 extreme 4
Ram - geil Evo Corsa
Timing - 10-10-10-28 1600mhz 1.5v - in OCCT test set to 1333mhz
Command rate -1
GPU - HIS 7970 reference
Power supply - Seasonic 850w 80+ gold
Hdd - 256 ocz vertex 3 ssd + 2TB WD Green
OS - Win 7 Ultimate 64bit

When running OCCT im running the current settings

CPU - Linpack
Memory - 90%
Infinite loop
AVX Capable Linpack selected

every 8 mins or so i get a cpu dip to 30% and then it returnes to 100% again. no voltage movement.

Is this normal. Any help would be really welcomed. if required in can post images of bios and occt.

Cheers

Daniel

No mate if the cpu speed drops it needs more power. Or youve not followed the guide and its getting hot and the thermal monitor is kicking in.

when watching temps on OCCT they are as follows

currently 45 mins into test

these are the max temps

CPUTIn max 53
Core #0 63 c
Core #1 68 c
Core #2 70 c
Core #3 67 c

All temps are in degrees

im lost i have tried stock setting, thermal monitor off case open. dip still happens at 8-9 mins as test cycles down temps. im not getting any voltage drops in cpu-z all stable at 1.1v

Actually that's perfectly normal. Linpack works by cycling through tests and there is a slight pause between each test which shows up by a drop in temperatures and a sharp flick in CPU usage. Here's a copy of a quick run I did:

The length between the tests is dependent largely upon the amount of memory you use. I set 25% just then to get a quick result to show you.
