My First 4ghz Overclock (980x)

Well ofc it can be, but i don't think it's the fault for the unstable overclock.

Do programs randomly start to "not responding" very often?

Try setting your ICH to 1.3V

And QPI to 1.4V

Prim95 seems stable at QPI 1.34v so what do you reckon now?

Sometimes Firefox will stop responding, but about a sec later will be fine, and only on certain website.

ok if prime is stable at 1.34V set it to 1.35V

the southbridge is responsible for the communication between the harddrives the USB ect. ect.

So i think by increasing the ICH Voltige (southbridge voltage) it might help with that problem..

So i would set it to 1.25-1.3V and see if it helps if not set it back down to 1.11 and deal with the USB problem.. :/ (sadly)

Run Prime95 for one hour and se if its stable

OK I will set QPI to 1.35v

Have a look at the Pic, the temps are so different cross the core, some are even 10 degrees different.....

Yeah there is a big difference between some cores and some times that has to do with the sensors not being correct (which usually is the case) In that case you will just have to live with it. But some times a reset of the heatsink can even out the temp..

No I don't think a BIOS update will reset the CMOS aka settings. But just in case wright them down

Btw don't increase your ICH as I told you earlier I see your SB is running hot(hot enough). Your core temps are getting a Little hot but i see your getting watercooling soon so your good then..

So Prime has been running about 40min stable now right?

Yeah once I get this stable I might invest in some decsent thermal compound and reseat the cooler........ Pretty sure it was like it before tbh, just the USB thing peeing me off as it does it sometimes when I am updating my phone, then it makes my phone crash

grrrrrrrrrrr

So Prime has been running about 40min stable now right?

I have only just started again, after putting QPI to 1.35v but prime has been running for about 8 minutes stable so fingers crossed........

Not getting water-cooling now, not got the budget for it now

, I know the core temps are high, but not many programs are going to be using 100% CPU, so hopefully it will be ok, I never OC,ed before now cuz if the temps

I think your good now, if it ran around 40min at QPI 1.34v??? I think it will run 60min now. But if not increase it even more to maybe 1.37v..

I really need to go to bed now
tongue.gif
But let me know how it goes.

I will do m8, Thanks so much for your help

Prime95 kept crashing on me last night again (either a worker failed or the whole program disappeared) running vcore 1.30v & QPI 1.35v

So this morning I set them both to 1.35v and prime95 has been running for nearly 30 minutes now, with no issues

What cooler are you using?, Those temps seem abit to high, Something is totally wrong with this overclock to get that hot and be unstable at 4Ghz.

I'm using the NH-D14, and RAM is running at 2000mhz (they are load temps)

Maybe the RAM at 2000mhz is making it unstable?

nice oc though
biggrin.gif
and for incase you didnt know its meant to run at half the speed they may say its running on 800 for example while its 1600 but its double data rate so it actually does run at 1600 when its at 800

I have had prime95 running for an hour with vcore of 1.33v QPI of 1.35v

With prime95 running I haven't been using PC, just left prime running, is that how I should be doing it, or should I be using it too?

Also did a bios update last night, I dunno if that would make a difference?

Should I try going with lower vcore volts?

Nice to see you are finally stable
smile.gif
yeah try to go lower, the lower the better. Especially when your CPU temps are a little on the high side.

How's the USB problem? is it any better after the BIOS update?

Edit: I don't think it matters if you use your computer or not when Priming, because if prime loads the processor 100% when you are not using the computer then your good, just because you use your computer while Priming wont make the processor work 110%
wink.gif
It might load the IMC more, but don't worry.

Na USB is the same

Should I leave prime running...... I was using pc swell as prime last night I wonder if that was the reason for the BSOD's?
