Hello, i got my intel core i7 2600k and my gigabyte p67a ud7, im trying to overclock without any success, it just freezes and i have to resett bios and everything. im using the latest bios F6, what am i doing wrong?, please help me

I don't know about Gigabyte mobos but Asus ones come with a auto tune option in the BIOS and a program you can run inside Windows, does your mobo have a option like that?

Give it a try if it does and if it still freezes it's not you doing something wrong it's a hardware/software problem. That's my guess anyway don't take it as gospel thou because I could be wrong, maybe someone else can clarify or knows more about it than I do.

i've tryed everything, i have updated bios and everything.. it just crashes if i clock higher than 4,5 GHz

maybe u lost out in the silicone lottery mate

Usually it's overheating that causes freezing, are you using a after market cooler because the stock one is absolute turd. I tried a OC on my 2500K and temps were going into the 70s and still rising at 4.3ghz. If you are using a after market cooler try reaplying your thermal paste.

Apart from that I don't know what else could be causing it other what thestepster said.

Same here mate, mine tops out at 4.6ghz, can't even POST above that even tho at 4.6 my temps dont go over 60. Tried increasing voltage and enabling the vdroop thing but no idea what else I'm meant to do. Tom said he's posting an overclocking vid so been waiting for that before asking for help.

hey there,

I have a similar setup as you(GA P67A-UD7 w/2600K and F6 BIOS),had marginal success with 1.4volts,Vdroop enabled and the like..and I can clock it @ only 4.5Ghz(any higher and it gives back a checksum error)...my temps don't go higher than 40 idling and 60 pushed(w/Noctua NH-D14)...would like to see Tom's guide to this overclocking.

I have never overclocked or built, so just take this for reference. Other people can comment on it as needed. These processors overclock differently than usual, I'm told.

Taken from an article in a magazine:

"Overclocking is still possible via the CPU multiplier, but only if you buy a K-series CPU. If you have a sufficiently powerful cooler, you can set non-k processors to Turbo Boost harder than usual, but if you want the most performance for your money, a Core-i5-2500k is the best CPU at the moment. We've compiled a step-by-step guide to overclocking the CPU from 3.3GHz to 4.5GHz, a safe everyday level, in an ASUS P8P67 motherboard.

1. Enter the EFI by pressing delete as the PC is booting.

2. Enter the advanced menu by clicking the button in the top-right corner.

3. Set the CPU multiplier to 45x

4. Enable Extreme Load-Line calibration.

5. Set the CPU voltage to 1.39V

6. Set the CPU PLL to 1.9V

7. Set the VCCSA to 1.1V

8. Set the VCCIO to 1.10625V

9. Hit F10 to save and restart."

I have no idea whether or not this is useful or I'm wasting your time, but I thought I'd post it all the same. For all I know you're probably doing things right and it's a hardware failure of some sort. Apologies in advance.

Yeah, you can only overclock the new K Sandy Bridge processors via the CPU multiplier. Add some voltages and that's all you can do really.

You can increase the base clock a little bit, most people can only do a 4-7MHz increase, so I would leave it at default, it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort.

I see a lot of sad faces with 1+GHz overclocks. The day has finally come?
